Israel Plans To Build 9000 Colonialist Units Near Occupied Jerusalem

On Sunday, Israeli media sources said the Israeli government prepared a plan to construct 9000 illegal colonialist units on lands of the shuttered Qalandia airport, north of occupied Jerusalem, in the West Bank.

The sources said that while the plan has not yet been officially approved, it is being discussed to be submitted for final approval before the constructions take place.

The plan aims to completely separate the northern parts of Jerusalem from the rest of the occupied West Bank.

Ahmad Roweidi, a Jerusalem Affairs advisor to president Mahmoud Abbas, said there are several colonialist plans Israel is trying to advance and implement to boost its colonialist military occupation in the West Bank, especially in and around the occupied capital, Jerusalem.

He added that the Palestinian leadership is acting on various levels and conducting talks with several countries to counter the illegal Israeli plans, especially the so-called “E1” that aims at the complete separation and isolation of Palestinian communities and towns in East Jerusalem, from the rest of the West Bank, by boosting the “belt of colonies” around the occupied city.

Roweidi added that Palestinian envoys are also holding talks with the US Administration and European countries, especially since colonies are illegal under international law and constitute war crimes.

“The Palestinian leadership is demanding the United States, Europe, and various countries in the world to act and stop the Israeli violations and has already started preparing to file complaints with international courts, especially the International Criminal Court,” Roweidi stated.

“Israel’s illegal colonialist activities violate all international laws and declarations, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, and must be stopped, especially the most dangerous plan E1 that aims at the complete isolation of occupied East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank and effectively killing any future peaceful resolution to the conflict, including the establishment of an independent, contiguous Palestinian state, by turning the West Bank into separated and isolated cantons without any geographical contiguity,” the official added.

The mayor said the Local Council licensed the homes; however, the army and its so-called “Civil Administration Office,” the administrative branch of the illegal Israeli occupation, do not recognize the permits.

The area of the demolitions is subject to constant Israeli violations, including the demolition of homes, sheds, barns, and other structures, in addition to the uprooting and bulldozing of Palestinian lands due to Israel’s escalating violations, especially the illegal colonialist activities aiming at removing the Palestinians from the area.

Update: An eyewitness, Bakr Armoush, 30, told WAFA Palestinian News Agency that the attack occurred approximately at four at dawn when a military force was deployed in the area after invading it 30 minutes earlier to abduct two young men in the Schools’ Area.

He added that the car transporting the slain woman was driving slowly, and when the driver saw the soldiers approximately 200 meters away, he tried to back away before more Israeli soldiers, who were hiding in the dark, started firing at the car, which came to a complete stop.

“The soldiers then approached the car, took the woman who was bleeding from her head out of her head, placed her on a stretcher before dropping her, and lifted her again before placing her in a jeep and driving away,” Armoush said, “The Palestinians then went to the scene of the attack, and found blood all over the place in addition to meals she had in the car.”

A surveillance video from the scene debunks the Israeli allegations and shows soldiers barricaded behind parked cars, opening fire at the car after the driver stepped on the brakes when he saw the army, and the car came to a complete halt.

The soldiers later handed the corpse of the slain young woman Palestinian medics in front of the Ofer military base before they moved her to the Ramallah governmental hospital.

The head of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, denounced the Israeli crime in Betunia and said the soldiers, encouraged by incitement and racism from the Israeli political leadership, are ongoing with their crimes against the Palestinian people, knowing well there will be no accountability.
