JERUSALEM, Sunday, October 09, 2022 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces today blocked the main entrance to the town of Anata and the nearby Shu’fat refugee camp, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, denying entry and exit of the local Palestinian residents, according to local sources.

Jerusalem Family Forced To Demolish Its Home

On Saturday evening, the City Council in occupied Jerusalem, in the West Bank, forced a Palestinian family to demolish its home.

Media sources said the family’s home is in the Wadi al-Jouz area in Jerusalem, adding that the family has been trying to appeal the demolition order and has already paid heavy fines and fees.

The City Council in occupied Jerusalem refused to grant the family of Haj Yahia a permit for their home and threatened to impose much harsher fines in addition to legal prosecution, including imprisonment.

The family had to demolish its own home to avoid being forced to pay additional fines and fees and the hefty demolition costs if the city used its workers and equipment.

Many Palestinians in the occupied city resort to constructing their homes without permits due to Israel’s continued refusal to grant them these permits, an issue that forces expanding families to live in small homes or apartments or build homes on their lands without permits.

This happens while Israel continues to build and expand its illegal, segregated colonies in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, in direct violation of International Law, the Fourth Geneva Convention, and various United Nations and Security Council resolutions.

Israel’s colonies in the occupied West Bank, including those in and around occupied East Jerusalem, are illegal under International Law, the Fourth Geneva Convention, and various United Nations and Security Council resolutions. They also constitute war crimes under International Law.

Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention states: “The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.” It also prohibits the “individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory.”

On its webpage, the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) stated that in 2021, ICAHD analysis revealed that 937 structures were demolished and 1,119 people displaced in the OPT, with a further 12,658 people directly affected. In addition, 3004 structures were demolished in the Negev/Naqab – 431 homes and 2553 agriculture and livelihood structures.

WAFA correspondent said a large number of Israeli police officers raided Bab al-Amoud (Damascus Gate) plaza in occupied Jerusalem, as hundreds of Palestinians were celebrating the occasion. She said police officers assaulted the attendees and injured and arrested many of them, dispersing the crowd by force.

At least six Palestinians were arrested by the Israeli police during the attack, she added.

Prior to this, hundreds of Palestinians from the city and other areas gathered at the plaza — located on the north side of Jerusalem’s Walled Old City — to celebrate the holiday. The events remained peaceful until Israeli police raided the plaza, beating Palestinians and arresting many of them.

Including An Infant, Israeli Soldiers Injure Dozens Of Palestinians Near Nablus

On Friday, Israeli soldiers injured many Palestinians, including an infant and his family, during the weekly processions against the illegal Israeli colonialist activities and ongoing military occupation, in Sorra, Beit Dajan, and Beita, near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said its medics provided treatment to thirteen Palestinians, including children, in Sorra town, southwest of Nablus.

The PRCS said the soldiers fired a barrage of gas bombs and concussion grenades, causing thirteen Palestinians, including an infant and his family in their home, to suffer the severe effects of tear gas inhalation.

The army also attacked protesters in Beit Dajan, east of Nablus, and fired many gas bombs and concussion grenades, causing several Palestinians to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation.

Furthermore, the PRCS said the soldiers attacked a procession in Beita town, south of Nablus, shot one Palestinian with rubber-coated steel bullets, and caused eighteen to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation.

The Palestinians have been holding ongoing processions on their lands in Sbeih Mountain in Beita, and in Beit Dajan, since May of last year after a group of illegal Israeli colonizers installed an outpost atop the Mountain.

The soldiers injured thousands of Palestinians during these protests and killed many others, including children.

The Mountain, owned by the Palestinians, has significant strategic importance, especially since if the colonizers occupied it, the colony would lead to the annexation of 20 Dunams of Palestinian lands and would also lead to the isolation of a large area of Palestinian lands.

On Friday evening, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that Israeli soldiers shot and killed two children, Adel Ibrahim Adel Daoud, 14, Mahdi Mohammad Ladadwa, 17, and injured dozens of Palestinians near Ramallah and Qalqilia, in the northern and central parts of the occupied West Bank.
