Rayyan And Awawda Continue Hunger Strike

Two Palestinian detainees imprisoned by Israel under arbitrary Administrative Detention orders continue the hunger strikes, protesting their continued detention without charges or trial.

Ra’ed Rayyan, 28, from Beit Duqqu town, west of occupied Jerusalem, continues the hunger strike for the 100th day, despite deteriorating health.

Rayyan was slapped with the first Administrative Detention order for six months on November 3rd, 2021, before Israel slapped him with another six-month order.

He is also a former political prisoner held by Israel for 21 months under the same Administrative Detention orders and is currently at the Ramla prison.

The second detainee, Khalil Awawda, 40, from Ethna town west of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, launched a new hunger strike on July 2nd after he suspended the first hunger strike that lasted for 111 days when the Israeli authorities reneged on a verbal agreement to release him and slapped him with a new four-month Administrative Detention order.

Awawda was abducted on December 27th, 2021, and is currently at the Assaf Harofeh Israeli medical center.

He is a married father of four children and is a former political prisoner who Israel held for many years.
