Killed In January; Israel Transfers Corpse Of Slain Palestinian To His Family

On Saturday, the Israeli occupation authorities transferred the corpse of a Palestinian, killed by Israeli soldiers in January of this year, to his family for burial.

The army handed the corpse of Faleh Mousa Jaradat, 39, to his family through the al-Jalama military roadblock, east of Bethlehem city,

His corpse was then transferred by Red Crescent medics to his home in Sa’ir town, east of Hebron, in the southern part of the West Bank, for a proper burial ceremony.

Jaradat was fatally shot by Israeli soldiers on January 17, 2022, at the Gush Etzion junction, north of Hebron, after he allegedly attempted to “stab a soldier,” an allegation that could not be verified.

The army then took his corpse in the act of collective punishment and refused to transfer it back to the families until Saturday.

Army Injures Many Palestinians In Beit And Beit Dajan

On Friday, Israeli soldiers injured at least sixteen Palestinians during the weekly nonviolent processions against the illegal colonialist activities in Beita and Beit Dajan, east and south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The Palestinians marched carrying Palestinian flags and chanting for ongoing resistance until liberation and independence before the soldiers attacked them with live gas bombs, concussion grenades, and rubber-coated steel bullets.

Ahmad Jibril, the head of the Emergency Department of the Nablus office of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), said the soldiers caused fourteen Palestinians, including a journalist, to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation.

Jibril added that two Palestinians also suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation in Beita.

The Palestinians have been holding ongoing processions on their lands in Sbeih Mountain in Beita, and in Beit Dajan, since May of last year after a group of illegal Israeli colonizers installed an outpost atop the Mountain.

The soldiers injured thousands of Palestinians during these protests and killed several others, including children.

The Mountain, owned by the Palestinians, has significant strategic importance, especially since if the colonizers occupy it, the colony will lead to the annexation of 20 Dunams of Palestinian lands and would also lead to the isolation of a large area of Palestinian lands.

WAFA: “Palestinian attorneys foil settler attempt to ‘evict’ Sheikh Jarrah families”

JERUSALEM, Friday, July 8, 2022 (WAFA) – Palestinian attorneys Thursday foiled an attempt by Israeli settlers to “evict” Palestinian families from their houses in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, according to the Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs.

The Ministry said in a press statement that Palestinian attorneys foiled Israeli settlers’ attempt to drive the Ja‘oni, al-Kassem, al-Kurd, and Iskafi families out of their houses in the neighborhood.

It explained that the attorneys successfully secured an Israeli Supreme Court decision rejecting the settlers’ petition that an expanded tribunal reconsider the court’s last decision to the effect of canceling “eviction” orders against the four families from their houses.

It added that the Palestinian team of attorneys has been working for years to ensure that dozens of families are not expelled from their houses and foil Israeli plans to establish a colonial settlement on the ruins of the houses.

The neighborhood has become a scene of massive protests against Israel’s settler-colonialism in the occupied territories since the Israeli occupation authorities decided to forcibly expel dozens of families from their houses in favor of colonial settler groups.

Palestinians have maintained that the Israeli occupation authorities’ decision to “evict” the families from their houses in favor of the settler groups is politically motivated and comes as part of Israel’s efforts to ethnically cleanse Jerusalemite Palestinians.

Since the occupation of Jerusalem by Israel in June 1967, Israeli settlers’ colonial organizations, including Elad and Ateret Cohanim, have claimed ownership of Palestinian property in Jerusalem. Backed by the Israeli state, judiciary, and security services, these organizations have been working on wresting control of Palestinian property and converting it into colonial outposts as part of the efforts to ensure a Jewish majority in the city, as well as to manage archaeological sites in Silwan and overseeing their excavation. This scheme involves building new colonial tourist sites, such as the “City of David”, to bolster their propaganda.

Press Release: Palestinian CSOs at the HRC50 Stress that Israeli Settler-Colonialism, Apartheid and Occupation are the Root Causes Impeding Palestinian Development

Al-Haq Human Rights Organization: During the 50th session of the Human Rights Council taking place from 13 June – 8 July 2022, Al-Haq, along with Palestinian Civil Society Organizations (‘CSOs’), engaged in the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance held on 5 July 2022 under item 9 of the HRC agenda.

In its oral statement, Al-Haq and partners welcomed the Special Rapporteur’s reference to Israel’s institutionalized discrimination against the Palestinian people as entailing a systemic violation of their right to self-determination and stressed that Israeli settler-colonialism, apartheid, occupation, and annexation are the root causes impeding Palestinian development; calling on the Special Rapporteur to analyze sustainable development and racial discrimination against the Palestinian people in this context.

Palestinian CSOs also supported the urgent need to transform the overall international development paradigm based on neoliberalism and replace it with one that prioritizes collective interests and resources over individual ones, and to implement the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, reminding States of their responsibility to condemn and prevent the crime of apartheid wherever and whenever it occurs.

Finally, the oral statement asked the Special Rapporteur to conduct a field visit in colonized Palestine and suggest an anti-colonial development paradigm that supports the realization of Palestinians’ right to self-determination. It further urged UN member states to reconstitute the UN Special Committee against Apartheid and the UN Centre against Apartheid to monitor the implementation of the Apartheid Convention and mobilize to end Israeli apartheid practiced against the Palestinian people.

WAFA: “Israel’s destruction of Duma spring facilities intends to deprive the Palestinians of their water resources”

RAMALLAH, Thursday, July 7, 2022 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation forces’ attack on the water spring of Duma village, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and the destruction of the pipes connected to it is another violation committed by Israel against the Palestinians and intended to deprive them of their water sources, today said the head of the Water Authority, Mazen Ghoneim.

He said in a statement that the spring is one of the water resources that are considered a main source of water in that area, which is suffering from a shortage in water and relies on the spring to secure water for the people of the village.

Ghoneim said the Water Authority had rehabilitated the spring due to its importance for the residents in this area who are constantly attacked and harassed by settlers in order to force them to leave their lands.

He stressed that the repeated Israeli violations against Palestinian water resources and projects are only further evidence of the Israeli violations of international laws and an Israeli policy that aims to deprive the Palestinians of their water resources and to prevent them from developing water projects to provide people with water in a safe manner.

The Israeli occupation forces broke into the Duma spring on Tuesday, accompanied by a bulldozer, and destroyed the water pipes and the surrounding fence, and damaged the recent restoration work.
