Occupied Palestine (QNN) – Israeli occupation authorities have detained about 690 Palestinian citizens, including 76 children and 19 women, from occupied Palestine during May 2022, detainees’ advocacy groups said.
The human rights groups pointed out that this is the second highest number of detentions in one month since the beginning of this year, compared with April, which saw 1,228 Palestinians detained.
As usual, occupied Jerusalem saw the highest number of detentions, followed consecutively by Hebron, Jenin, and Bethlehem, they added.
They indicated that May 2022 has also seen a spike in violations and crimes committed by the Israeli occupation, including field executions, home demolitions, collective punishment measures, and systematic detention campaigns.
As of May 2022, there have been nearly 4,700 Palestinian detainees, including 32 female detainees and about 170 minors, held in Israeli occupation prisons. Of them, about 640 detainees, including two women and a child, are under administrative detention without charge or trial, the advocacy groups noted.
They also indicated that the number of Palestinian detainees who were given life sentences has jumped to 551 after an Israeli court sentenced Palestinian detainee Ahmad Asafra to life term in prison in addition to 25 years.
In April, the Israeli occupation authorities have detained 401 Palestinian citizens from occupied Jerusalem, including 58 children and 16 women, and well as issued approximately 160 administrative detention orders.
