Amid high tensions, Far-right Israeli settlers plan provocative march in occupied Jerusalem

Far-right Israeli settlers take part in the Flag March near Jerusalem’s Old City on May 10, 2021

Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- Far-right Israeli settlers are planning to go ahead with a provocative march in occupied Jerusalem on Wednesday.

Amid high tensions in the area following Israeli forces ongoing raids of al-Aqsa mosque to clear the way for settlers, right-wing Israeli groups are planning to hold a march around the walls of the Old City.

The planned march will be organized and will start at 5pm local time despite not having received an approval from the occupation police, Haaretz reported.

The occupation police have claimed they will not provide security for the so-called Flag March, which is expected to pass the Damascus Gate (Bab Al-Amud) that leads into the Muslim Quarter on its way to the Al-Buraq Wall (the western portion of All-Aqsa Mosque complex which is known to Jews as the “Western Wall”) and asked the organisers to change the route.

The march, which served as one of the triggers of last year’s Israel’s aggression on Gaza, is an annual Israeli activity, celebrating the occupation and annexation of the eastern part of Jerusalem.

Last year, in a similar situation, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip fired rockets toward Jerusalem as Israeli nationalists holding the flag march were making their way to the Old City.

The events had led to a 11-day Israeli deadly aggression on the Gaza Strip that killed at least 254 Palestinians, including 66 children, 39 women, and 17 elderly people and wounded more than 1,900, including 380 children, 540 women, and 91 elderly people.
