On Wednesday, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip participated in a solidarity stand with the residents of the Sheikh Al-Jarrah neighborhood in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
The participants in the vigil, organized by Palestinian factions, in the Memorial Park of “the Unknown Soldier”, in Gaza City, raised the flags of Palestine, along with a large banner that read, “All support for the steadfastness of our people in Jerusalem and Sheikh Jarrah, in the face of the terrorism of the occupation.” Since Sunday.
The Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem has witnessed aggressive assaults from the settlers and the occupation forces alike, this all happened after the extremist Israeli MP Itamar Ben Gvir stormed the neighborhood and established a parliamentary office there accompanied by dozens of settlers.
Amer Al-Jaab, a leader in the Palestinian Democratic Union Party (FIDA), called for the formation of a “unified leadership for the popular resistance, to face the challenges that the cause is going through.” In a speech, on behalf of the participating factions, he said: “We stand with the city of Jerusalem, the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and its residents, who are facing Israeli aggression, the price of which will be paid by the occupation.”
He added: “The unity of the people will fail all (Israeli) plans.” He called on the Palestinian leadership to “form a government of national unity, or national salvation, aimed at preparing for elections”, in order to face challenges in a unified manner.
Also he called for the necessity of “implementing all decisions of the National and Central Councils (which are affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization), stopping security coordination with Israel, and withdrawing recognition of the occupation.”
Finally Al-Jaab called for submitting “Israeli crimes to the International Criminal Court, to hold accountable and punish the criminals.”
