Israeli Settlers Block Entrance to Northern West Bank Village

Days of Palestine – Nablus – Under heavy protection from Israeli occupation forces (IOF), Israeli settlers gangs blocked Tuesday the entrance to the northern West Bank village of al-Lubban al-Sharqiya, south of the city of Nablus, witnesses said.

They stated that the settlers gangs performed religious rituals at the entrance to the village and threatened to seize the village’s girls’ school, which is located on the main Nablus-Ramallah road.

The IOF, who protected the settlers as they harassed the local Palestinian population and performed their rituals, obstructed the movement of villagers and commuters from going in or out of the village.

Al-Lubban al-Sharqiya is frequently subjected to Israeli settlers’ attacks, such as breaking into village homes and schools located on the main road and causing damage while threatening the life of civilians, mainly school students.

Meanwhile, and not far from al-Lubban al-Sharqiya, hundreds of settlers, also under IOF protection, broke into Muslim sites in the village of Awarta, southeast of Nablus, according to Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlement activities in the northern West Bank.

He said the settlers, who also performed religious rituals at three different religious Muslim sites in the village, provoked clashes with the local Palestinian residents.

Jerusalem Church Leader Says Israeli Extremists Threaten Christian Presence

Days Of Palestine – Jerusalem – The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of the occupied Palestinian city of Jerusalem says extremist Israeli groups are threatening the presence of Christians in the holy city as the Israeli regime continues assaulting places of worship.

In a column in the Times of London on Saturday, Theophilos III said he believed the aim is to relocate the Christian community from Jerusalem, which has sites sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

“Our presence” in Jerusalem is “under threat,” the patriarch wrote in the article, adding, “Our churches are threatened by Israeli radical fringe groups.”

He added that the Christian community in Jerusalem is suffering by “the Israelis.”

“Our brothers and sisters are the victims of hate crimes. Our churches are regularly desecrated and vandalized. Our clergy are subject to frequent intimidation,” Theophilos said.

In December, patriarchs and heads of churches in Jerusalem said extremist Jewish groups are trying to drive Christians out of the holy city, arguing that Israeli authorities have failed to curb assaults against members of the religious community and desecration of their sites.

More than 600,000 Israelis live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Jerusalem.

All Israeli settlements are illegal under international law as they are built on occupied land. The United Nations Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories in several resolutions.

Palestinians want the West Bank as part of a future independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Israeli Settlers Raze Palestinian Land for Settlement Expansion

Days of Palestine – Nablus – The Israeli occupation settlers razed Monday large areas of Palestinian land in Burin Village, south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank.

The Director-General of Publication and Documentation at the Settlement and Wall Resistance Authority, Qassem Awad, said that settler bulldozers destroyed some 50 dunums of Palestinian land near the settlement of “Yitzhar.”

He explained that the settlers recently established several settlement units in the bulldozed lands, threatening to seize large areas of the town’s lands owned by the Palestinian people of Burin, Hawara, and Asira al-Qibliya areas in Nablus.

He stressed that this area was declared occupied by the Israeli settlers for decades, and Palestinian citizens are prohibited from accessing, cultivating, and reclaiming them.

“The Israeli occupation forces and settlers gangs carried out such attacks in the context of the seizure of the land and the transformation of the West Bank into isolated cantons from each other,” He said.
