PA carried out 45 cases of Political arrests in December: Human Rights Group

Days of Palestine – Ramallah – The “Lawyers for Justice” group has documented more than 45 cases of political arrests carried out by the PA security services in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of this December.

The head of the advocacy and intervention department in the human rights group, Nidaa Basumi, confirmed that the arrests of the PA security forces targeted organizational cadres and political activists.

Basumi indicated, in press statements, that these arrests come as part of an ongoing campaign that escalated in pace after the assassination of a force from the Preventive Security Service, the political opposition, Nizar Banat, on June 24, 2021.

The arrests and the suppression of freedoms implemented by the PA security targeted the cities of Nablus and Jenin in the northern West Bank, as well as Birzeit University, and before them the city of Hebron, and other cities of the occupied West Bank.

Basumi indicated that the group documented 200 cases of political arrests between April and November 2021.
