Israel Approves Expansion Of Illegal Colony In Jerusalem

The Israeli “Construction and Planning Committee” of the City Council in the occupied Palestinian capital, Jerusalem, has approved the construction of what is called a “new neighborhood” in the illegal Atarot colony, north of Jerusalem.

Israeli media sources said the new constructions would take place on more than 1243 Dunams and added that the plan also includes a commercial area.

The plan also includes hotels and public infrastructures in addition to more than a thousand residential units on the illegally occupied Palestinian lands.

Sven Kuhn von Bergdorf, a senior European Union representative, denounced the Israeli plans as a clear and flagrant violation of International Law.

Bergdorf, who heads the EU delegation to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, made the statement during a visit to a few Palestinian neighborhoods in occupied East Jerusalem.

“The recent approvals of thousands of housing units for Israeli settlers are aimed at disconnecting the Palestinians from their city and changing East Jerusalem identity. Israeli settlements are in clear violation of international law…,” Bergdorf said, “Such actions are not only in breach of Israel’s obligations as an occupying power, but they also … fuel tensions on the ground,” the EU diplomat said.

The visit, which included several European delegates, was organized by the Israeli NGO Ir Amin, which also briefed the visiting delegates of the dire consequences of the ongoing Israeli colonialist activities.

In related news, EU diplomats issues a joint statement strongly criticizing the Israeli plan and affirming that the European Union does not recognize any unilateral Israeli changes to the pre-1967 borders, including occupied East Jerusalem, other than what the Palestinians and the Israeli agree on.

It is worth mentioning that last month, Israel approved the construction of 1860 units in thirty illegal colonies in the occupied West Bank.

Belgium To Label All Products Made In Israeli Colonies

The government of Belgium has decided to label all products from the illegal Israeli colonies in the occupied West Bank, an issue that prompted Israel’s Deputy Foreign Ministers, Idan Roll, who is currently visiting the country, to cancel a meeting at the Belgian Foreign Ministry in Brussels.

The Israel official said he canceled the meeting in protest of the Belgian decision, which he described as “strengthening extremists” and “does not help promote peace in the region,”

It is worth mentioning that Belgium made its decision is based on a ruling by the European Union’s Court of Justice in the year 2019, in which it said: “consumers should be aware which items are made in Israeli settlements.”

However, even after the ruling was made, many countries in the European Union have been reluctant, or at least, slow in implementing it.

Nevertheless, the European Union’s official stance, even before the ruling, has always exempted products made in the illegal Israeli colonies from its free-trade agreement.

In the year 2015, the EU issued a set of guidelines on how the countries in the union can legally label products made in the Israeli colonies, an issue that caused tension between Tel Aviv and the EU, although the decision was never a boycott of these goods, but merely labeling them as made in these illegal colonies.

Soldiers Summon Jerusalem Governor For Interrogation

Israeli soldiers invaded, Thursday, the home of Jerusalem governor, Adnan Gheith, in the al-Wista neighborhood in Silwan town, south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied capital and summoned him for interrogation at the al-Maskobiyya interrogation facility.

Media sources said several army jeeps invaded the town, before the soldiers surrounded Gheith’s homes, and broke into it.

They added that the soldiers, accompanied by intelligence officers, violently searched the property, and assaulted Gheith in front of his family, before abducting him.

It is worth mentioning that, in August of this year, Israel issues an order that prevented Gheith from entering other parts of the West Bank for three years., or even participating in any meetings or activities that aim at helping the Jerusalemite Palestinians.

The order also restricts Gheith’s movement in east Jerusalem and includes a map of where he can go inside Silwan, in addition to barring him from having any contact with 51 Palestinian officials.

Israeli Soldiers Bulldoze Lands, Close Roads, Near Nablus

Israeli soldiers bulldozed Thursday, Palestinian farmland, and closed agricultural roads near Sbeih Mountain, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Local sources said the soldiers closed agricultural roads leading to the mountain by placing sandhills to prevent the Palestinians from reaching and working on their lands.

The sources added that the soldiers also bulldozed lands in the area, an act that has been a recurrent violation every Thursday, aiming at preventing the Palestinian vehicles, including ambulances, from reaching the mountain.

The Palestinians have been holding weekly processions in Sbeih Mountain since May of this year after illegal Israeli colonizers occupied its top and installed an outpost.

The Mountain, owned by the Palestinians, has significant strategic importance, especially since if it is occupied by the colonizers the colony would lead to the annexation of 20 Dunams of Palestinian lands, and would also lead to the isolation of a large area of Palestinian lands.

Palestinians hold vigil in Ramallah against Israel’s withholding of martyrs bodies

Ramallah (QNN)- Dozens of Palestinians held a vigil on Thursday in the center of Ramallah city against Israel’s withholding of Palestinian martyrs bodies.

Dozens Palestinian protesters earlier today organized a vigil in the center of the city to express opposition against Israel’s withholding of bodies of Palestinian martyrs, demanding the occupation authorities to return their bodies, as since 2015, the occupation authorities have been withholding the bodies of 81 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces.

254 Palestinian martyrs are buried in Israeli military patrolled grave sites, 81 are in police morgues and 68 are disappeared, in violation of the international law.

The Geneva Conventions stresses the necessity of burying the bodies of deceased detainees or those who were killed with respect according to procedures that are appropriate with their religious culture.

On 9 September 2019, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that the occupation state may continue to hold the bodies of Palestinians as bargaining chips.

A rule that marked “the first time in history that a court – anywhere in the world – authorizes state authorities to hold the bodies of individuals under its control, to which international laws governing occupation apply, and to use them as bargaining chips. It undermines the most basic principles of universal humanity, and violates both Israeli law and international law”, according to Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights.

“No country in the world allows itself to hold and to use bodies as a political bargaining chip. These practices violate international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law, including the UN Convention against Torture, which absolutely prohibits such cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment,” Adalah said.
