PCHR: Israeli Occupation Designates 6 Pioneering Palestinian Organizations Terrorists

October 23, 2021 (The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights) – Israeli Defense Minister, Benny Gantz, designated six pioneering Palestinian civil society organizations as terrorist organizations, allegedly for affiliations with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), aiming to free Palestine and abolish the State of Israel. These organizations are well known, each pioneering in their field with significant achievements over the course of their decades long work in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli decision and asserts that it is an obvious ploy to silence and end these leading organizations, who expose the occupation’s crimes, aim to prosecute them before international justice, and support Palestinian people’s resilience. PCHR warns that the Israeli decision is an attempt to provide legal coverage to persecuting these organizations, targeting their personnel, and liquidating them. PCHR holds the occupation fully responsible for the safety of these organizations’ staff.

PCHR Director, lawyer Raji Sourani, commented on the Israeli decision, saying:

The Israeli decision aims to undermine our work before the International Criminal Court at a very sensitive time, as serious investigations are underway into Israeli crimes. Israel is attempting to practice a Trump-era style of bullying, who issued an Administrative Order to prosecute any party that collaborates with the ICC in its investigations against the United States or Israel. This decision aims to uproot these organizations completely by drying their sources of funding by claiming linkage to terrorism. Unfortunately, we expect dangerous measures like confiscation of bank accounts, closures, travel ban. We also warn against the possibility of physical harm and liquidation.”

He added,

The Israeli decision is a futile attempt to reverse the facts. As the occupation throws accusation of terrorism without proof, Palestinian human rights organizations have managed over many years to collect evidence that prove the occupation’s systematic terrorism against the Palestinian people, through documentation of war crimes and crimes against humanity, which we have presented to the ICC. The integrity of the evidence we supplied, forced the ICC to open an investigation into Israeli crimes. We are now closer than ever to having Israeli occupation leaders summonsed for investigation.”

Sourani concluded,

We believe in the work we do. We will not stop and shall continue to hold Israel accountable at all levels. We will defend our cause and our organizations. We will protect the rule of international law and human rights. At last, I want to emphasize that the international community ought to take assume its legal and moral responsibility to end the Israeli bullying. If the rule of law is defeated, what is the alternative?!”

According to the Israeli decision the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees, Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, Al-Haq, Bisan Center for Research and Development, Defense for Children International – Palestine, and the Union of Agricultural Work Committees are all terrorist organizations, affiliated with the leadership of the PFLP which aims to destroy Israel and free Palestine. The decision also claimed that these organization are run and operated by PFLP leaders and activists.

According to Israeli allegations, the designation was the result of a collaboration between the Israeli Shin Bet and the National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing of Israel that started early this year.

It is noteworthy that PCHR repeatedly and continuously documents Israeli practices against the civil society in the oPt, which has transpired as an obvious policy of all Israeli governments. These practices include death threats against human rights activists, restrictions on their freedom of movement, raiding and closing CSO offices, arresting human rights defenders, and defaming, smearing, and delegitimizing CSOs; as well as, denying them external funding. The Ministry of Strategic Affairs and Public Diplomacy leads the efforts to undermine Palestinian civil society, with collaboration with different tools, particularly right-wing organizations that operate under the cover of NGOs, most prominently is NGO Monitor.

PCHR asserts that there is a systematic Israeli policy to chain CSOs, particularly human rights and development organizations, to silence them and undermine their efforts in persecuting Israeli war criminals before international justice. It also aims to abort any effort to support the resilience of the Palestinian people living under occupation. PCHR holds the international community responsible for holding Israel accountable under international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

Hence, PCHR demands the international community, particularly European Union member States and the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions, to pressure Israel to cease its attacks on the Palestinian civil society and to force it to respect IHL and international human rights law in the oPt.

Peace Now: Israeli government ‘is acting like an annexation government’

TEL AVIV, Sunday, October 24, 2021 (WAFA) – Israeli human rights group Peace Now has denounced the ongoing construction of 31 housing units for illegal Israeli settlers in the heart of Hebron city, south of the occupied West Bank.

It said in a statement, “The [Israeli] government is acting like an annexation government, not as a change government. Since the 1980s, no government has dared to build a new settlement in the heart of the largest Palestinian city in the West Bank.”

|Peace Now: The government is advancing 30 plans with 2862 units for settlers and 6 plans with 1303 units for Palestinians. 22.10.21|

“The Defense Minister has to stop construction, even if the plan was approved by the previous government. The settlement in Hebron is the ugly face of Israeli control of the territories. The moral and political price of having a settlement in Hebron is unbearable,” added the statement.

This week, settlers began construction work on a new settlement of 31 housing units in the heart of the Old City of Hebron, in the old bus station complex. This new construction in Hebron is the first in twenty years that is being carried out inside the Palestinian city, in a compound that has been occupied by the Israeli occupation army for years as a military base and is now being established as a settlement.

All kinds of Israeli settlement activities in the occupied territories are considered illegal by the international community.

‘Israel’ to build over 1,355 housing units in illegal settlements in West Bank and Jerusalem

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Israeli occupation government announced on Sunday plans to approve the building of over 1,355 housing units in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

On Sunday, Israel’s so-called Ministry of Housing published 13 new tenders for the construction of 1,355 housing units in 7 illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and another tender for the construction of an additional 83 units in the illegal settlement of Givat Hamatos in East Jerusalem.

These tenders are in addition to about 3,000 housing units in the illegal settlements that will be promoted this coming Wednesday, according to the Israeli anti-settlement watchdog Peace Now, which said the publication of a tender means that the government wants to start construction.

According to the watchdog, the tenders published are: Beit El – 346 units; Adam – 96 units; Ariel – 731 units; Karnei Shomron – 22 units; Emanuel – 57 units; Elkana 102 units; Beitar Illit – one housing unit.

92% of the housing units in the tenders published yesterday are in settlements deep in the occupied West Bank that ‘Israel’ will have to evacuate under a permanent agreement, Peace Now said.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in housing units planning, and in 2020, plans were advanced for 12,159 housing units.

Since the formation of the new government on 13/6/21, no plans have been approved in the settlements, but this coming Wednesday about 3,000 housing units are expected to be approved, Peace Now said.

There are nearly 700,000 Israeli settlers living in 256 illegal settlements and outposts scattered across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.

While allowing settlers to break into Al-Aqsa, Israeli forces harass Palestinians in Jerusalem

Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- Dozens of extremist Israeli settlers have broken into the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city of Jerusalem since the early morning hours of Monday.

Under the occupation forces protection, over 60 Israeli settlers broke into the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque during the morning break-in session and their incursions to the mosque continues till this moment.

The settlers entered through the Damascus Gate- which Palestinians call Bab al-Amoud Gate- and they are now provoking the Palestinian worshipers by performing Talmudic prayers in the courtyards of the mosque and taking pictures.

In the meanwhile, Israeli forces stopped and harassed several Palestinians near the Bab al-Amud, one of the Old City’s entrances.

Israeli forces harass Palestinian man near the Bab al-Amud in Jerusalem

Israeli occupation authorities have allowed settler incursions to the mosque since 2003, under the forces protection, although there have been repeated objections and warnings by the Palestinian religious authorities as the settlers’ visits provoke Palestinian worshippers of the mosque.

Israeli forces always facilitate and protect the settlers incursions while preventing Palestinian worshipers from entering it, assaulting and detaining them.

The Al-Aqsa mosque is one of the holiest sites in Islam.

Jews refer to the area as the Temple Mount, claiming it was the site of two prominent Jewish temples in ancient times.

The complex also includes the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of the most sacred Christian sites in the world.

Fasfous’ family expresses concerns that Israel’s negligence could kill hunger-striking son

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- The family of Kayed Al Fasfous said that they are concerned that Israeli authorities could kill their son through negligence. Fasfous (32 years old), a father of one girl, has been on a hunger strike for 102 days so far in protest against his administrative detention without any charges or trial.

“The condition of Kayed is very bad and he suffers from severe pains”, the family said.

The family added that suspending the administrative detention is only a misuse of law and a form of execution, which has no legal consequences.

It added that there is a clear Israeli decision to kill the hunger-striking detainees amidst the blackout of their medical conditions.

The family called for an international move to save the lives of the hunger-striking detainees.

The Prisoners’ Association had said today that the possibility of death among the detainees is increasing amidst the Israeli continuous rejection of ending their administrative detention.

The hunger-striking detainees are Kayed Al Fasfous (on hunger strike for 102 days), Miqdad Qawasmi (on hunger strike for 95 days), Alaa Al A’raj (on hunger strike for 78 days), Hisham Abu Hawwash (on hunger strike for 69 days), Shadi Abu Iker (on hunger strike for 61 days), and Ayyad Al Hirimi (on hunger strike for 32 days).

Israeli diplomat suggests cutting off power & water from US consulate in Jerusalem should it get reopened

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- The former Israeli ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, suggested that Israeli authorities cut off power and water from the US consulate in occupied Jerusalem should Washington reopen it, reported Israeli media.

Israel Hayom cited Oren recalling an Israeli demolition of a Palestinian-owned outdoor toilet in the eastern part of Jerusalem and the US rejection for the move.

Oren said he was summoned to the State Department and rebuked for the demolition. “The demolition was authorized by the Israeli courts,” said Oren. That event “like other humiliating incidents” was “germinated at the American consulate in Jerusalem”, he added.

the Israeli newspaper cited Oren as speaking with pro-Israel organizations about the consulate in the eastern part of Jerusalem, through which the US communicates with the Palestinians.

“I showed them the consulate’s website. Everything on it was a Palestinian narrative, just in Arabic and English. From that website, you would not know that there was a single Jew in Jerusalem. I told them; this is antisemitic. Do something about it. They weren’t willing to go up against the State Department. The consulate made sure to avoid even an appearance of American recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and in embittered the lives of successive governments here every time they built a new neighborhood for Jews in Jerusalem, and every time they tried to enforce planning and building laws in east Jerusalem”, he said.

Oren added that he is convinced that if the Biden administration takes unilateral steps and reopens the consulate, the occupations state will have to fight the move. “Theoretically, one could stop providing electricity and water to the building. And it is possible to do other things that we shouldn’t talk about right now,” he says. “One has to take into account that there will be a price to pay; perhaps condemnations and perhaps sanctions. Therefore, we have to weigh carefully whether we can bear those costs. It is a strategic question, but, if, God forbid, the Americans decide to break all the rules, the battle at one level or the other will have to continue.”
