Al-Salhi calls on President to request UN and EU to open polling stations at their headquarters in Jerusalem

Al-Salhi calls on President to request UN and EU to open polling stations at their headquarters in Jerusalem

Gaza post –  Bassam Al-Salhi, Secretary-General of the Palestinian People’s Party and member of the Executive Committee of the Liberation Organization, called for the unification of the language of all Palestinian forces by rejecting elections without Jerusalem and not suggesting a willingness to marginalize the issue under any pretext whatsoever.

In a statement on Saturday, Al-Salhi said that the struggle to ensure Jerusalem’s participation in the elections was a consistent goal of the Palestinian People’s Party and that the recognition of elections without Jerusalem was an implicit agreement to the bargain of the century.

It was considered more urgent to agree on mechanisms for translating the position of the forces to reject elections without Jerusalem after the registration of the lists had been completed and Israel had refused to abide by any commitments in Jerusalem.

In clear denial of Israel’s commitments in Jerusalem, we invite President Abu Mazen as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, to call upon the United Nations and the European Union, who have sponsored these agreements, to assume their responsibilities and to open the United Nations and European Union headquarters of the combined 17 voting sites by the voters of Jerusalem in their city, and cooperate with the Central Electoral Commission to achieve this.

Al-Salhi also called on the United Nations and the European Union to oversee and monitor these elections in Jerusalem, including the protection of electoral propaganda and the immunity of candidates and activists from Israeli threats and prosecution and condemning any Israeli attempts to prevent or sabotage the elections.

The People’s Party was determined to exhaust all instruments of political pressure for the participation of our Jerusalemite people in these elections, propaganda, candidacy, voting, and from their city, but at the same time he will not slip to participate in elections without Jerusalem, and he calls on everyone, especially Fatah and Hamas, not to slip into it.

Western churches start celebrating Easter in Palestine

Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- Western churches started today celebrating the Resurrection Sunday in Palestine.

Christians had celebrated Good Friday in the Old City’s Christian quarter for the Way of the Cross procession, where worshippers retrace the last steps of Jesus before his crucifixion.

In scenes very different from last year, Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre was open to the public on Palm Sunday last week. Thousands of worshipers took part in the prayers and celebrations as more than half of Israelis have received two vaccine doses.

“Last year was a terrible Easter, without people, closed doors. This year is much better, the door is open, we don’t have a lot of people but we feel more hopeful that things will become better,” the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Pierbattista Pizzaballa, told Reuters news agency on Palm Sunday.

Although the occupation state vaccinated its population, it deprived Palestinians of the vaccination, which means that thousands of Palestinian Christians will be denied entry to the holy city during the holidays.

Israeli settlers uproot, vandalize dozen of olive trees near Nablus

Nablus (QNN)- Israeli settlers today’s morning uprooted and destroyed dozen of olive saplings for Palestinian farmers in Qusra village, near the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank.

Emad Hasan, Mayor of Qusra, told WAFA that a group of Israeli settlers came from the illegal settlement outpost of Esh Kodesh and sneaked their way into a ranch near the village, where they uprooted about 100 olive saplings belonging to two local Palestinian villagers.

The two villagers were identified as Jawad Hasan and Abdulazim Abulafi.

This was the second attack on Palestinian property by Israeli settlers in less than two days, as a video released by rights group showed Israeli settlers attacking a Palestinian man with stones in the nearby Jalud village on Saturday

Palestinians plant around 10,000 new olive trees in the West Bank each year, most of which are of oil-producing varieties.

However, Palestinians see the destruction of their trees as a way for the occupation to erase Palestinian identity and force them to cede more land to Israel.

The committee against the wall and settlement on Sunday said Israeli forces uprooted, broke, and damaged 6507 trees in 869 operations in 2020.

Israeli settlers violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the occupied West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli occupation authorities.

There are nearly 700,000 Israeli settlers living in 256 illegal settlements and outposts scattered across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.
