A Palestinian political prisoner serving 25 years of sentence completes today 17 years behind Israeli prison bars, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).
Anas Rashed Hethnawi, from Jenin city in the occupied West Bank, was arrested on this day in 2004, and was sentenced 25 years in prison for his activism in the armed resistance against the Israeli occupation.
Like many Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, Hethnawi was held in solitary confinement and denied family visit several times by the Israeli occupation authorities as a punishment against him and his entire family.
There are 4500 Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli jails, among them 37 women, 140 children, and 45 held in administrative detention.
