Gaza braces for chilly spell of rain amidst shortage of electricity

About 40 per cent of the households have electricity less than eight hours a day and 15 per cent have less than six hours while 9 per cent do not have electricity at all due to their inability to pay for the bills

Amidst sever shortage of electricity needed for warming, Gaza is bracing for chilly spell of local rains, which expected to intensify in the afternoon hours.

Friday will be wintery, cold, rainy and occasionally stormy. The rain is expected to weaken in the evening.

Saturday will be cool and partly cloudy and local rains may fall along the coastline of enclave, which has been under a strict Israeli siege for about 14 years.

All Gazans have electricity only 14 hours a day due to the lack of electricity supplies from the Israeli side as part of the siege.

About 40 per cent of the households have electricity less than eight hours a day and 15 per cent have less than six hours while 9 per cent do not have electricity at all due to their inability to pay for the bills.

This makes winter a time of suffering and tragedies due to rains and cold spells.
