Israeli army raids Sebastia to remove flagpole

Nablus (QNN)- The Israeli army raided the archaeological sites in Sabastia, Nablus on Friday to order the removal of a new flagpole that was supposed to carry the Palestinian flag during the next few days.

The army gave the municipality of Sebastia one week to remove the flagpole.

The municipality told QNN that the Israeli raid is part of the Israeli ongoing assaults to impose the Israeli control on archaeological sites throughout Palestine.

The Deputy Mayor of Sebastia, Nizar Kayed, added that the flagpole is part of a plan to restore archaeological sites in the areas, classified as “B” according to Oslo accords.

Dozens of illegal settlers, accompanied by Israeli soldiers, have stormed the archaeological area in Sebastia yesterday, leading to confrontations with locals. Israeli soldiers threw tear gas canisters at locals’ houses during the confrontations.
