Watchdog: Cancer patient prisoner tested positive for Covid-19

Ramallah (QNN)- The Committee of Prisoners and Former Prisoners Affairs revealed on Sunday that the cancer patient prisoner Kamal Abu Wa’r (46 years old) from Qabatya, Jenin has been tested positive for Covid-19.

The committee said the Israeli deliberate negligence policy made Palestinian prisoners an easy target for the virus and many other life-threatening diseases.

The committee added that Abu Wa’r, who has throat cancer and lives in very serious and complicated conditions, was transferred on Tuesday from section 2 of Gilboa prison to Afula hospital to make some tests, including the Covid-19 test, but he tested negative for the virus.

On Friday, he was taken to Assaf Harofeh hospital and he turned out to be positive for the virus.

The committee added that Abu Wa’r was isolated. All prisoners in section 2 were also isolated.

It also held the Israeli authorities responsible for the life of Abu Wa’r and demanded to immediately test all patient prisoners for the virus.

The committee stated that Abu Wa’r’s suffering from cancer started by the end of 2019. He was subjected to radiotherapy after a long time of deliberate medical negligence. Israeli doctors were forcing him to undergo tests without removing his handcuffs.

The Israeli treatment of Abu Wa’r led to weight loss, speech difficulty, and pains in his neck and head.

Abu Wa’r was arrested on January 15, 2003. He was sentenced to six life sentences and50 years.

The occupation state uses deliberate medical negligence to kill as much possible of Palestinian prisoners. 69 Palestinian prisoners were killed in Israeli jails due to medical negligence, while the total number of martyrs who were killed in Israeli jails since 1967 is estimated at 224.
