Palestinians, protesting the Israeli occupation and its settlement activities, today clashed with Israeli soldiers in various parts of the West Bank resulting in several injuries, all minor, according to sources.
In the northern West Bank village of Haris, east of Salfit, soldiers prevented Palestinians from holding the Friday prayer on village land slated for confiscation by the Israeli military, said local sources.
The army set up roadblocks at roads leading to Haris and prevented activists who wanted to participate in the protest prayer from reaching it.
The residents and activists, anyhow, held the prayer near the military checkpoint at the entrance to the village, said the sources.
This is the fifth week in a row residents of Haris and activists participate in the Friday prayers on the threatened land in an effort to prevent the Israeli takeover of their land, which will be used for illegal settlement activities in that area.
Further north from Haris, in the village of Kufr Qaddoum, near Qalqilya city, nine Palestinians were injured from rubber-coated metal bullets fired by Israeli soldiers at the participants in the weekly protest in the village against settlement activities in their area, according to Murad Shteiwie, coordinator of the popular resistance in the village.
He said that as in every week, soldiers raid the village and shoot rubber bullets or teargas at the participants in the protest causing the nine injuries from rubber bullets and dozens suffocating from teargas inhalation.
In the southern West Bank city of Hebron, residents clashed with Israeli soldiers at the contact point between the Israeli-occupied section of the city and the Palestinian-controlled section, said local sources.
Dozens of people suffered from teargas inhalation fired by soldiers who took over rooftops in the area.
