Over 9,000 Palestinians displaced in a decade of Israeli demolitions in West Bank

Over 115,000 people’s livelihoods were affected by the demolitions

Israeli occupation has demolished 6,116 Palestinian structures in the West Bank and East Jerusalem between 2010 and 2019, according to UN report, displacing 9,249 Palestinians including around 4,500 children.

The vast majority of the destruction, 79 per cent, has taken place in Area C of the occupied West Bank, over which the Israeli army has full control.

Roughly two per cent of demolitions took place in Area A, which is under full control of the Palestinian Authority (PA), and Area B, which is under partial PA control.

According to the UN report, the demolitions took place between 1 January, 2010 and 24 December, 2019.

Over 115,000 people’s livelihoods were affected by the demolitions.

Around 28 per cent (1,734) of the destroyed structures were inhabited residential buildings.

In a minority of cases, demolitions were carried out by the owners of the structures, who had received a demolition order and wanted to avoid the high fees incurred when the Israeli occupation carry out the destruction themselves.
