PLO Commander: We Support Russia’s Move to Revive Political Process

The Palestinian leadership supports any Russian move to revive the political process in order to bring an end to the Israeli occupation, said Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee member Wasel Abu Youssef.

Speaking to Asharq al-Awsat, Abu Youssef stated that the PLO is confident of any role played by Russia and hopes that there will be a serious approach to starting a path leading to ending the occupation.

“We asked its (Russian) officials to join forces with most of the world’s countries in order to block US decisions against the Palestinian people and their rights,” asserted Abu Yusuf.

He described Russia as a “friendly country” of the Palestinians that has always supported the rights of the Palestinian people.

He explained that “basically we were looking forward to an effective Russian role within the mechanism of an international alternative to the path of the previous settlement, which was exclusively sponsored by the United States.”

“We expect Russia, China, the EU to be a major part of the international mechanism. We want an international role in the face of the deal of the century.”

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia would be ready to host a meeting between Palestinians and Israel and to act as a mediator.

“It is impossible to create stability in the Middle East, including in Libya and Iraq, without a solution to the oldest regional problem, the Palestinian problem,” Lavrov said on his trip to Rome.

“We support the need for a resumption of direct talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians. We confirm again our offer from several years ago to host a meeting between the Israeli and Palestinian leaders in Russia without any preconditions,” asserted the Russian Minister.

It is not clear if Lavrov’s statement meant that Russia would play a role in the political process or merely an attempt to bring the views closer and break the deadlock.

A few weeks ago, Russia’s special envoy to the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, confirmed his country’s support for the initiative proposed by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to hold an “international peace conference.”

Bogdanov praised “Abbas’ wise stances that support stability in the region on the basis of the international legitimacy resolutions.”

The Russian official reiterated his country’s support for the Palestinian people and their right to determine their fate and to establish an independent state on the 1967 border, with Eastern Jerusalem as its capital.

Abbas is seeking to launch an international peace conference, which will result in an international mechanism involving the quartet committee, including the United States, and European and Arab states, consisting of five or seven states under the umbrella of the United Nations, which is at the heart of a political process with the Palestinians and Israelis.

Abbas tried to convince France of his initiative, but French President Emmanuel Macron was not convinced, unlike his predecessor, Francois Hollande, who launched a two-phase conference in 2016 and 2017.

The Palestinian President personally worked to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to launch an international peace conference using his influence in the region.

The Palestinian ambassador to Moscow Abed al-Hafeez Nofal said that Russia, and not just the US, now has an effective role in the region due to the great changes that have taken place in the Middle East.

US officials said President Donald Trump wanted to see the plan executed in February, but his advisers would prefer a more cautious approach, given the political crisis that swept through Israel over the past week.

Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked said that reaching peace is currently impossible and that Trump should focus his energy elsewhere until the Palestinians are ready to compromise.

“I think, personally, it is a waste of time,” Shaked said.

Abbas has repeatedly declared that he would not even listen to the plan after the US declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of the US embassy to the city, and other decisions taken by the US administration against the Palestinian Authority.

Israel says Washington is the only country capable of overseeing negotiations.

Israeli Paper Criticises Singer For Defining Herself As Palestinian

In addition to usurping the Palestinian land, the Israeli occupation pundits have been trying to steal the Palestinian culture.

A popular Israeli newspaper had severely attacked the Palestinian-American singer Lina Makhul after defining herself as a Palestinian.

The Israeli newspaper came under fire due to its violent attack on Makhul, who has previously starred in an Israeli TV Show.

In an article, the Israeli newspaper expected that the singer Makhul to define herself as a Zionist Israeli citizen because her origin refers back to Akka, one of the Palestinian cities occupied by Zionist pundits in 1948.

Makhul has previously refused to sing on the independence day of the Israeli occupation because it is the remembrance of the Palestinian holocaust.

In addition to usurping the Palestinian land, the Israeli occupation pundits have been trying to steal the Palestinian culture, including songs, traditions, clothes, crops, foods, etc…

Palestine slams Israel’s arrest of Jerusalem governor

The governor was arrested in an Israeli raid on his home in Jerusalem

The Palestinian government has decried Israel’s arrest of Jerusalem governor Adnan Ghaith in a raid in the occupied city on Sunday.

“The governor’s arrest is part of [Israel]’s continued policy of targeting the occupied city, its people and holy sites,” government spokesman Yousuf al-Mahmoud said in a statement.

Israeli forces detained Ghaith in a dawn raid on his home in Silwan neighbourhood in East Jerusalem on Sunday.

The Israeli military did not provide any details about the reason for the governor’s detention.

The Palestinian spokesman accused Israeli authorities “of seeking to impose its hegemony and creating the impression that it has the upper hand in Jerusalem”.

“Jerusalem represents a symbol of existence and survival in the Palestinian, Arab, and Islamic conscience,” he said.

On Thursday, Israeli authorities banned Ghaith from entering the occupied West Bank for a six-month period.

Last month, the Jerusalem governor was arrested by Israeli forces and held in prison for two days before being released.

Jerusalem remains at the heart of the decades-long Mideast conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem — occupied by Israel since 1967 — might one day serve as the capital of a Palestinian state.

International law continues to view East Jerusalem, along with the entire West Bank, as “occupied territories” and considers all Jewish settlement construction there as illegal.

Israeli Soldiers Attack Palestinians Protesting The Abduction Of Jerusalem Governor

25 NOV
9:29 PM

Israeli soldiers attacked, Sunday, dozens of Palestinians nonviolently protesting the abduction and imprisonment of the governor of occupied Jerusalem, Adnan Gheith, causing many injuries, and abducted one.

The soldiers and the police fired dozens of concussion grenades at the protesters, and assaulted many of them with clubs and batons, causing many to suffer various cuts and bruises.

The soldiers also attacked and injured another Palestinian, identified as Jawad Siyam, before abducting him.

The Palestinians were nonviolently marching against the ongoing and escalating Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian capital, and called for the immediate release of the governor, before the soldiers resorted to the excessive use of force against them.

The protesters affirmed that Israel’s violations, including the abduction of the governor, are part of Israel’s attempt to enforce its illegal occupation and control of the city, and added that the Palestinians will remain steadfast and will continue their struggle for liberation and independence.

They called on the international community to stand with the Palestinians, facing some of the most dangerous and racist violations by Israel, which denies their basic rights in their homeland.

It is worth mentioning that an Israeli court remanded the governor until the next hearing on Thursday.

His lawyer, Rami Othman, said the Central Court in occupied Jerusalem, will be looking, on Monday morning, into an appeal against the governor’s remand.

Many of the children report being denied an education, family visits and medical attention.

PPS stressed, according to Days of Palestine, that Israel has enacted several laws, since 2015, and targeting Palestinian children in particular, that would allow the detention and trial of minors at age 14 years, and prison sentences of more than ten years to life, for those found to have thrown rocks at illegal settlers or occupation forces.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, there are 5,580 Palestinians being held in Israeli prisons, of whom 250 are children, with 35 under the age of 16 years.

Israel Is Building A New Illegal Colony In Nablus

25 NOV
9:12 PM

The Israeli occupation authorities are ongoing with the destruction and bulldozing of private Palestinian lands in Ein Jaloud village, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, as part of growing construction of an illegal colony.

Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian Authority official who monitors Israel’s illegal colonialist activities in northern West Bank, told WAFA Palestinian News Agency that the army is ongoing with preparation work, including a new road, a concrete water reservoir and new units on Palestinian lands on the hilltops of Jaloud.

He added that the colonialist settlers have already installed a large tent, and several wooden rooms in that area.

Daghlas also stated that the army, and the colonists, are ongoing with preparation work to expand the illegal colonies in five areas in Nablus, especially the expansion of Shvut Rachel and Amichai colonies.

“This is happening while Israel is ongoing with expansion work in Ahiya, Esh Kadesh and Kida illegal colonies, on Palestinian lands,” he added, “The constructions are even taking place on build more ‘neighborhoods’ outside of these colonies, by stealing more lands from the Palestinians.”

He also said that the colonies and outposts which were illegally built on the southern and eastern areas of Jaloud, have been witnessing a serious and dangerous escalation of illegal colonialist constructions, as Israel plans to create a colonialist bloc in an area of more than eight square/kilometers of lands owned by Jaloud villagers, in Area C of the occupied West Bank.

All of Israel’s colonies and outposts in the West Bank, including in and around occupied East Jerusalem, are illegal under International Law, the Fourth Geneva Convention, to which Israel is a signatory and a constant violator, in addition to various international treaties and agreements.
