GAZA, (PIC)– Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, said that the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s new decree which determines the quota in municipal elections violates the election process and attempts to influence its results. Hamas’s spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri affirmed in a press statement on Tuesday his Movement’s refusal of any new laws as long as the election process has already begun. The decree runs contrary to the law which stipulates that the president of the municipal council has to be nominated by election by the council members, the statement pointed out. The presidential decree determines the members number of some local councils in the West Bank, allocated more seats for the Christian community, and decreed that a christian should head them.
