The commission also noted that since 2015, Israeli authorities have arrested nearly 2,500 Palestinian minors and handed down ‘unfair verdicts’ and fines to them
The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs reported that 450 Palestinian children are detained in Israeli jails, including about 270 minors in Ofer Prison, located near the West Bank town of Beitunia.
The official human rights body noted that nine minors are being held by the Israeli authorities under administrative detention.
The commission also noted that since 2015, Israeli authorities have arrested nearly 2,500 Palestinian minors and handed down “unfair verdicts” and fines to them.
It pointed out that in January the Israeli authorities issued fines against the prisoners in Ofer Prison amounting to 90,000 Israeli shekels (about $23,000 US).
According to figures from DCI-Palestine, three out of four Palestinian children experience physical violence during their arrest, transfer or interrogation.
