Female soldier strip-searches 2 Palestinian women in Beit Ummar

HEBRON (Ma’an) — A female Israeli soldier on Saturday forced an elderly Palestinian woman and her daughter to take off their clothes at gunpoint during a raid into their home in the town of Beit Ummar north of Hebron, a local official told Ma’an.Muhammad Ayyad Awad, a spokesperson for the town’s popular committee, said that Israeli forces raided and searched a number of homes in Beit Ummar on Saturday.During one of these raids, a female Israeli soldier pointed her rifle at 63-year-old Kamila Mousa Sabarna and ordered her to take off all her clothes, Awad said. The same soldier then reportedly performed a strip-search on Sabarna’s 37-year-old daughter. Awad said that the strip-search was carried out in a closed room with no one present but the female soldier.Tensions have escalated sharply in Beit Ummar in recent days, where Israeli forces have carried out multiple search-and-arrest operations this year, detaining scores of Palestinians.Last week, Israeli forces sealed the main entrance to the town — which is home to more than 15,000 Palestinians — following an attack on Israeli soldiers nearby. It was reported that Israeli Civil Administration officers later met with town officials and told them that they would remove the checkpoints and reduce restrictions on freedom of movement if locals “cooled” the security situation.
