AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– A group of Israeli settlers attacked Monday morning a Palestinian primary school with stones near Kiryat Arba settlement south of al-Khalil.
The school Headmaster Hisham Qawasmi told a PIC reporter that settlers from the nearby Israeli settlement of Kiryat Arba stoned the school, pointing out that several military checkpoints were erected in the surrounding areas.
The school, that has more than 340 students, is frequently subjected to similar attacks and violent raids at the hands of Israeli settlers and soldiers, he added.
A similar attack was reported in Nablus when a group of settlers stoned a secondary school in Burin town south of the city.
Nearly 20 Israeli settlers stoned Sunday afternoon the school in an attempt to break into it.
The school was evacuated following the settlers’ attack.
Israeli forces rushed to the area and heavily fired tear gas bombs towards the students.
Israeli settlers have escalated their attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem over the past two months, amid growing tension and ongoing clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers.
In this regard, the Israeli Human Rights Center B’Tselem said that “Palestinians are left unprotected not due to any lack of legal means, but because the authorities employ an unofficial yet longstanding policy of leniency and lack of law enforcement on violent settlers.”
