Hamas calls on PA government to cancel the blue tax

GAZA, (PIC)– The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, called on the Palestinian Authority (PA) unity government to cancel the so called blue tax imposed on Gaza power station’s fuel, saying the three-month exemption is not enough.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said, in a statement on Tuesday evening, the Palestinian Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah promised, during his visit to Gaza, to take a final decision in this regard.

The PA unity government decided to exempt the fuel that goes for the only power station in the besieged Gaza Strip from blue tax for only three months.

The blockaded costal enclave has been suffering from severe power crisis for eight years in the wake of Hamas winning of the Palestinian legislative elections in 2006. This was followed by the Israeli bombing of Gaza power station as well as the imposition of the siege on the Strip.

Hamas chief in Gaza phones Turkish PM

Haniyeh discussed the issue of eight-year Israeli blockade on Gaza

Hamas Deputy Chief Ismail Haniyeh phoned on Monday Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu, discussing recent developments in Palestinian arena.

Israeli occupation waged a 51-day military onslaught on the blockaded strip last summer, which killed more than 2,160 Palestinians and injured nearly 11,000

Anadolu –Hamas Deputy Chief Ismail Haniyeh phoned on Monday Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu, discussing recent developments in Palestinian arena, a statement said.

Talks tackled inter-Palestinian reconciliation, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the crisis of Hamas-appointed civil servants.

According to the statement, the two sides also discussed Turkish aid to Gaza, the Gaza Strip’s border crossings and the proposed establishment of a water corridor for the blockaded enclave.

During the conversation, Davutoglu pledged to meet with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah in hopes of “making a breakthrough” in various files.

Hamas accuses Hamdallah’s unity government of failing to shoulder its responsibilities vis-à-vis the Gaza Strip since it was drawn up last summer.

One of the sticking points is the payment of Hamas-appointed civil servants, whose salaries the unity government refuses to pay.

The Gaza Strip continues to reel under an eight-year Israeli blockade, which has badly affected the livelihoods of most Gazans.

Israeli occupation waged a 51-day military onslaught on the blockaded strip last summer, which killed more than 2,160 Palestinians and injured nearly 11,000.

Israeli Fighter Jets have Joined Saudi War on Yemen: report

“This is for the first time that the Zionists are conducting a joint operation in coalition with Arabs,” Secretary General of Yemen’s Al-Haq Political Party Hassan Zayd wrote on his facebook page.

However Iran rejects arms dispatch to Yemen accusations. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Marziyeh Afkham in a statement on Tuesday refuted accusations and said : “those allegations as ‘complete fabrications’ and ‘sheer lies.”

She stressed such claims ‘will by no means justify recent attacks on Yemen.’

Afkham underlined that Iran’s Red Crescent Society is ready to help the injured Yemenis and urged the international community, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in particular, to help the war torn region.

Moreover  head of Iran Red Crescent’s Relief and Rescue Organization Nasser Charkhsaz said the 19-ton relief package of Iranian humanitarian aid is intended to help those recently been targeted by Saudi-led aggression on Yemen.

Today Saudi-led airstrikes in Yemen kill 33 people after Saudi-led coalition warplanes struck southern Yemen’s Dhamar city, eyewitnesses have said.

Dozens of people have also been injured in the strikes in Dhamar’s Yarim district, eyewitnesses told The Anadolu Agency.

The Saudi-led fighter jets bombed Yemen’s Yarim district in Ibb province, and claimed the lives of more than 8 people. The strikes also left 28 civilians wounded.

Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for six days now, killing, at least, 126 civilians and injuring hundreds more.Overnight, the Saudi-led coalition targeted several sites in capital Sanaa and other parts of Yemen.

The fighter jets have targeted Sanaa International Airport as well as a military camp in northern Sanaa, according to security sources.

The coalition warplanes have also shelled varius sites in western Yemen’s Taizz and Al-Hudaydah provinces, according to eyewitnesses.

Since last Wednesday, Saudi Arabia and its Persian Gulf allies have maby locations across Yemen.

Riyadh says the strikes are in response to appeals by embattled foemer President Abd Rabbu Manshour Hadi to capture lost power.

On Monday, at least 40 people, mostly civilians, were killed in an airstrike on a refugee camp in north-western Yemen.

Israel holds Palestinian minister after IDF judge orders his release

Jamil Barghouti, arrested during a demonstration on Saturday, claims police singled him out in advance.

Israeli forces confront Palestinians, Mar. 20, 2015.

Israeli forces confront Palestinians at a demonstration on Mar. 20, 2015

Israeli authorities arrested a Palestinian minister and kept him in jail even after an Israel Defense Force’s judge ruled that there was no evidence he had broken the law and ordered his immediate release.

Police arrested Minister Jamil Barghouti, the head of the Palestinian Authority committee against the separation barrier and settlements, during a demonstration on Saturday.

Barghouti was participating in a festival in the village of Nabi Saleh, outside Ramallah. The village has been in conflict in recent years with the Jewish settlement of Neve Tzuf. During the event, the crowd began marching toward the settlement, but were stopped by IDF soldiers and police. At a certain point Barghouti waved a Palestinian flag. Several policemen surrounded him and arrested him.

According to Barghouti, the policemen had singled him out in advance and were talking among themselves about wanting to arrest him. Barghouti replaced Ziad Abu Ein – who died in December after a run-in with soldiers at a demonstration near Ramallah – as head of the PA committee.

Israeli authorities and the PA differ on the cause of Abu Ein’s death: The former say the autopsy suggested he died of a heart attack, whereas Palestinian officials claim he was killed after being struck by and inhaling tear gas.

After Barghouti’s arrest, the local IDF commander ordered his release. Officers at the police station, however, demanded that conditions be set for his release – including posting a 5,000-shekel ($1,250) bond, a five-day house arrest and a ban against participating in demonstrations for five to 10 days.

The police assert the conditions were justified because he ignored the prohibition against entering a closed military zone. Likewise, the police presented a film clip depicting the arrest.

However, IDF Judge Shmuel Kedar ruled on the basis of the footage that Barghouti had done nothing illegal, and even if there had been any sort of misconduct, the order the police sought was invalid. Kedar added that there was no reason to continue holding Barghouti under arrest, and ordered his immediate release.

The military prosecution in West Bank, headed by Col. Morris Hirsch, defied the release order and held Barghouti until 8 P.M. An appeal was scheduled for Monday, with Hirsch insisting that Barghouti post a 5,000-shekel bond as a guarantee that he will appear in court.

The IDF spokesman has yet to comment on the case.

Turkish medical NGO opens branch in Gaza

File photo of a Palestinian child being seen to at a clinic in Gaza during Israel’s offensive last Summer

A Turkish medical NGO opened a branch in the Gaza Strip on Friday with the aim of assisting the blockaded Palestinian enclave’s ill-equipped medical institutions, Anadolu has reported. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the community head of Earth Doctors reminded the audience that the territory is besieged by land, sea and air.

“Nevertheless,” said Orhan Alimoglu, “we believe that our work will benefit local hospitals and the Palestinian health sector greatly.” He thanked the people of Turkey and other supporters for their donations towards the establishment of the Gaza branch.

Alimoglu explained that the NGO would occasionally dispatch doctors from Turkey to Gaza for difficult cases that Gaza doctors could not treat or which required competencies not available in the enclave. Earth Doctors will also support Gaza medical institutions with infrastructure, equipment and medicine, he added.

The Israeli occupation has blockaded the Gaza Strip since 2007, when Palestinian movement Hamas took full security control of the territory, ending around 18 months of post-election chaos fomented by a bloc within Fatah funded by Israel and the US. Hamas won the Palestinian election in 2006. The subsequent blockade has deprived the territory’s 1.9 million inhabitants of even the most basic commodities.

Deputy Palestinian Health Minister in Gaza Yousef Abul-Rish thanked the Turkish NGO and people. The Turkish government and charities have, he pointed out, been supporting the Palestinian health sector for many years.

99 Palestinian kids Currently Detained in Israeli Jails: Prisoner’s Club

99 Palestinian kids Currently Detained in Israeli Jails: Prisoner’s Club

Head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club’s (PPC) legal unit Jawad Boulos, Monday reported that there are 99 Palestinian minors detained in Israeli jails, of whom 26 children were arrested in March.

During a visit to minor Palestinian prisoners incarcerated in Israeli jails, Boulos said that 33 minors are currently serving actual imprisonment sentences for different periods of time.

He stressed that 20 children are suffering from various diseases, citing the case of child Khalid al-Sheikh, who suffers from Anemia and is still detained by the Israeli prison administration despite of his critical health condition and prompt need for medical care.

Boulos affirmed that based on the affidavits of minor  prisoners, most of the arrests were made during the late night hours, where children are taken from homes and subjected to interrogation without the presence of a legal guardian as stipulated by law.

He said that children are treated like adults during their detention period in a blatant violation of relevant children’s rights and laws.

To be noted, the Israeli Ofer prison accommodates the highest number of Palestinian minor prisoners when compared to other Israeli jails.

According to media sources, in 2014, approximately one thousand Palestinian children were arrested by Israeli forces, often for no reason. Advocates point to systematic abuse, including physical assault and forced confessions, but the Israeli military remains steadfast.

An attorney and international advocacy officer for Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCI-Palestine) says that 2014 was “devastating” for Palestinian children.

According to Global Research website, “Palestinian children were regular targets of Israel’s systematic violence throughout 2014,” says Brad Parker of DCI-Palestine.

He said that, “in about twenty percent of cases, kids are brought and held in solitary confinement solely for interrogation purposes,” a practice that has been condemned by international law, which equates it to torture, Parker explained.”

In a report filed on the last day of 2014, DCI-Palestine says that “2014 brought no respite for Palestinian children, whether entangled in the Israeli military detention system, living in residential areas in the Gaza Strip, or simply on their way to school.”

The organization says that in 2014, “the average number of children held in Israeli military detention stood at 197 per month.”

CDI-Palestine reported that, “Three in four Palestinian children detained by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank last year endured physical violence during arrest and interrogation.”

Data compiled by DCI-Palestine from 98 affidavits of Palestinian children aged 12 – 17 also showed that night arrests between midnight and 5am increased to 56.1 percent from 45.4 percent in 2012. In 21.4 percent of cases, Israeli military, police and security agents held children in solitary confinement for an average of 10 days for interrogation purposes.

To be noted, Israel is the only state to automatically and systematically prosecute children in military courts that lack basic standards of due process.

Around 500 – 700 Palestinian children, some as young as 12, are arrested, detained and prosecuted in the Israeli military detention system each year.

The majority of Palestinian child detainees are charged with throwing stones. No Israeli children come into contact with the military court system.

DCI-Palestine research shows that children arrive to Israeli interrogation centers blindfolded, bound and sleep deprived. Unlike their Israeli counterparts, Palestinian children have no right to be accompanied by a parent during an interrogation.

In 96 percent of cases documented by DCI-Palestine in 2013, children were questioned alone and rarely informed of their rights, particularly their right against self-incrimination.

The interrogation techniques are generally mentally and physically coercive, frequently incorporating a mix of intimidation, threats and physical violence with a clear purpose of obtaining a confession. More than one in five of the 2013 cases, children signed statements in Hebrew, a language they do not understand.

Impunity for violations was a significant obstacle in 2013 as DCI-Palestine filed 15 complaints with Israeli authorities concerning the ill-treatment and torture of 10 children while in Israeli military detention.

Not a single indictment has been issued against a perpetrator. Many Palestinian families refuse to file complaints for fear of retaliation or simply because they do not believe the system is fair or impartial.

Recent amendments to Israeli military laws concerning children have had little to no impact on their treatment during the critical 24 – 48 hours after an arrest, where most of the ill-treatment occurs at the hands of soldiers, policemen and interrogators.

Israeli forces detain 3 at Erez crossing

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) — Israeli forces detained three Palestinian merchants at the Erez crossing in the northern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, a Palestinian liaison official said.

The three had obtained merchant’s permits prior to crossing.

An Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma’an she was unaware of any arrests made at the Erez crossing on Tuesday.

Merchants are regularly detained at the Erez crossing, allegedly for smuggling in materials forbidden by Israel to enter the Gaza Strip. Erez is the only Israeli crossing open to people; other crossings are dedicated solely to goods.

“The Erez crossing has become a trap for Gaza merchants who have newly received entry permits from Israel,” a Palestinian liaison official told Ma’an in early March, in response to a recent increase in merchant detainment by Israel.

The prohibition on certain materials comes as part of the 8-year blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip by Israel.

The blockade has severely limited the imports and exports of the Gaza Strip and has led to frequent humanitarian crises and economic hardship for Gazans, worsened by the most recent war between Israel and Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza strip last summer.

It was their third conflict in less than five years, following an eight-day bombardment in 2012 and a 22-day war in late 2008 and early 2009, taking a massive toll on infrastructure across the coastal enclave.

Dozens Killed in Retaliatory Attacks on Idlib

Following the defeat of Assad regime forces in Idlib by rebel groups, including units affiliated to the Free Syrian Army, Assad regime forces retaliated in Idlib and Dara’a, killing over 50 civilians by indiscriminate shelling.

Spokesman for the Syrian Coalition Salem al-Meslet said that “our primary concern now is the plight of civilians in Idlib who are already being subjected to indiscriminate retaliatory barrel bomb attacks by the Assad regime. This even includes reports of new chemical weapons attacks by the regime. Syrian Civil Defense groups are actively working on the ground to ensure civilians are evacuated from areas targeted by the regime. But the bravery of these individuals is not a sustainable solution. The regime has already shown in Homs that if it loses territory, it will respond by inflicting total destruction. The international community must not allow Idlib to suffer the same fate as Homs at the hands of Assad’s air force.”

“The Syrian National Coalition calls for the establishment of a no-fly zone in northern Syria, including over Idlib. Without it, the territory may quickly fall back into the hands of the regime or ISIS. A no-fly zone will protect civilians on the ground from Assad’s aerial attacks, enable safer access for humanitarian aid and create the space needed to establish moderate governance and basic services. We are encouraging the hand over to moderate civilian governance structures by armed groups in Idlib. But without a no-fly zone, any strategy to bring relative stability, governance, aid and services to Idlib will fail.”

Easy good deeds with great rewards

Good deeds like mountains

By Abu Amina Elias

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Allah has made many good deeds for us, acts of worship and kindness towards others, which are easy to do and are greatly rewarded. These deeds might appear small in the sight of people but they can become as heavy as mountains on the scale of good on the Day of Resurrection. We should become familiar with them so we can practice them daily and thereby earn their blessings.

Perhaps the easiest deeds for us to do are to fill our days with supplications, praising and glorifying Allah morning and night. Every supplication will be counted among our good deeds and will erase our sins. Of course, we must not merely say them outwardly as we must also be sincere and act upon the meaning of these supplications.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

كَلِمَتَانِ حَبِيبَتَانِ إِلَى الرَّحْمَنِ خَفِيفَتَانِ عَلَى اللِّسَانِ ثَقِيلَتَانِ فِي الْمِيزَانِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ

Two words are beloved to the Most Merciful. They are light on the tongue but heavy on the scale: glory and praise to Allah, and glory to Allah the Almighty.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Whoever declares there is no god but Allah, He is one without partner, to Him is the sovereignty and praise and He is powerful over everything one hundred times a day, then he will have the reward of emancipating ten slaves, a hundred good deeds will be recorded for him, a hundred sins will be erased from his record, and he will be guarded from the devil during the day until evening. No one will exceed him except one who recited these words more often. Whoever declares the glory of Allah one hundred times a day, his sins will be erased even if they are like the foam of the ocean.

Abu Musa reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَلِمَةٍ هِيَ كَنْزٌ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Spending time in the mosques, the houses of Allah, is an easy way to earn great rewards. In fact, every step we take towards the mosque will raise us a degree and expiate a minor sin.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

مَنْ تَطَهَّرَ فِي بَيْتِهِ ثُمَّ مَشَى إِلَى بَيْتٍ مِنْ بُيُوتِ اللَّهِ لِيَقْضِيَ فَرِيضَةً مِنْ فَرَائِضِ اللَّهِ كَانَتْ خَطْوَتَاهُ إِحْدَاهُمَا تَحُطُّ خَطِيئَةً وَالْأُخْرَى تَرْفَعُ دَرَجَةً

Whoever purifies himself for ablution in his house and he walks to a house among the houses of Allah in order to fulfill an obligation among the obligations of Allah, then one step of his will expiate his sins and another step will elevate his status.

Performing the five daily prayers with their due reverence, being sincere inwardly and perfecting their outward form, is like bathing in a river five times a day. When these prayers are performed in an excellent manner, they clean our souls from spiritual sins and expiate our minor sins such that we are left pure in heart.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

أَرَأَيْتُمْ لَوْ أَنَّ نَهَرًا بِبَابِ أَحَدِكُمْ، يَغْتَسِلُ فِيهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسًا مَا تَقُولُ ذَلِكَ يُبْقِي مِنْ دَرَنِهِ‏

If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day, would you notice any dirt on him?

They said, “Not a trace of dirt would be left.” The Prophet said:

That is the example of the five prayers with which Allah erases evil deeds.

Source: Sahih Bukahri 505, Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi

After the prayer, we should not rush back to our worldly affairs so quickly without remembering Allah. Just as we need a “cool down” exercise after a workout in the gym, we should perform a spiritual cool down exercise after prayer by glorifying, praising, and exalting Allah ten times, but preferably up to thirty three times or more. However, many of us lose this opportunity as Satan distracts us with some worldly need after prayer.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

تُسَبِّحُونَ وَتُكَبِّرُونَ وَتَحْمَدُونَ دُبُرَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ مَرَّةً

Glorify and exalt and praise Allah thirty three times after every prayer.

Source: Sahih Muslim 595, Grade: Sahih

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

There are two practices that will admit a Muslim into Paradise if he preserves them both. They are easy although those who practice them are few. It is to glorify Allah ten times and to praise Allah ten times and to exalt Allah ten times at the end of every prayer, for it is one hundred and fifty upon the tongue but one thousand five hundred upon the scale. And it is to glorify Allah thirty three times and to praise Allah thirty three times and to exalt Allah thirty four times when going to sleep, for it is one hundred upon the tongue and one thousand upon the scale. So which of you would commit two thousand five hundred sins in a day?

They said, “O Messenger of Allah, how are they easy but few practice them?” The Prophet said:

Satan comes to one of you during prayer and incites him to remember a need so he leaves the prayer without saying them, and Satan comes to him when he goes to bed and lulls him to sleep without saying them.

In addition to the five prayers, we should accustom ourselves to praying the voluntary Sunan prayers throughout the day. Whoever makes it a regular practice to pray twelve voluntary bowings (raka’at) a day will have a house built for them in Paradise.

Umm Habiba reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ مُسْلِمٍ يُصَلِّي لِلَّهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً تَطَوُّعًا غَيْرَ فَرِيضَةٍ إِلَّا بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَوْ إِلَّا بُنِيَ لَهُ بَيْتٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

There is no Muslim servant who prays for Allah twelve bowings every day in addition to what is obligatory except that Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.

Umm Habiba said:

I have never abandoned praying them after this.

In another narration, the Prophet said:

Whoever prays twelve additional bowings in a day and night will have a house built for him in Paradise: four before noon prayer and two after it, two after sunset prayer, two after evening prayer, and two before dawn prayer.

Recitation of the Quran is a very easy way to earn tremendous rewards. Every letter we recite will be recorded as ten good deeds and each verse we memorize will raise us a degree in Paradise.

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

مَنْ قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حَسَنَةٌ وَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا لَا أَقُولُ الم حَرْفٌ وَلَكِنْ أَلِفٌ حَرْفٌ وَلَامٌ حَرْفٌ وَمِيمٌ حَرْفٌ

Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will receive one good deed as ten good deeds like it. I do not say that Alif Lam Meem is one letter, but rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter.

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

يُقَالُ لِصَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ اقْرَأْ وَارْتَقِ وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنْتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَإِنَّ مَنْزِلَتَكَ عِنْدَ آخِرِ آيَةٍ تَقْرَأُ بِهَا

It will be said to the companion of the Quran: Recite and ascend as you recited in the world. Verily, your rank is determined by the last verse you recite.

Even if reciting the Quran is very difficult for those of us who do not know Arabic, we should remember that the reward will be doubled.

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ وَهُوَ يَتَعَاهَدُهُ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ شَدِيدٌ فَلَهُ أَجْرَانِ

The example of one who recites the Quran and he is committed to it and it is very difficult for him is that of one who receives a double reward.

Greeting our brothers and sisters with peace is an easy way to spread love between members of the community and earn good deeds. If we extend the greeting as “peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings” (as-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu) we will earn thirty good deeds each time.

Imran ibn Hussein reported: A man came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “Peace be upon you.” The Prophet said:

Ten good deeds.

Then another man came to the Prophet and he said, “Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.” The Prophet said:

Twenty good deeds.

Then another man came to the Prophet and he said, “Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.” The Prophet said:

Thirty good deeds.

Fasting might be a difficult deed for many people but after practice it can become easy. We should remember that fasting a single day will remove us from Hellfire by a distance of seventy years, an enormous blessing for comparatively little effort.

Abu Sa’eed reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا بَاعَدَ اللَّهُ بِذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ وَجْهَهُ عَنْ النَّارِ سَبْعِينَ خَرِيفًا

There is no servant who fasts a day in the way of Allah except that Allah will distance his face from the Hellfire by a length of seventy years of travel.

This great reward can be acquired even more easily if we fast during the short winter days.

Anas reported: Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

أَلا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى غَنِيمَةٍ بَارِدَةٍ

Shall I tell you about easy spoils?

They said, “O Abu Huraira, what are they?” Abu Huraira said:

Fasting in the winter.

Finally, we should perform acts of kindness for others and even animals. A small act of kindness might seem trivial to people but they are great in the sight of Allah, as some people have entered Paradise due to such deeds.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Once a man suffered from thirst while he was walking on a journey. When he found a well, he climbed down into it and drank from it. Then he came out and saw a dog lolling its tongue from thirst and licking the ground. The man said: This dog has suffered thirst just as I have suffered from it. He climbed down into the well, filled his shoe with water, and caught it in his mouth as he climbed up. Then he gave the dog a drink. Allah appreciated this deed, so He forgave him.

It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, is there a reward for charity even for the animals?” The Prophet said:

In every living being there is a reward for charity.

This man went to Paradise because of his act of kindness for a dog, so how much greater are acts of kindness toward people?

Allah rebukes those Muslims who pray outwardly but their superficial prayer does not lead them to give “simple assistance” or “small kindnesses” (al-ma’un) towards others.

Allah said:

Woe to those who pray, who are heedless of their prayer, who pray to be seen and withhold simple assistance.

Surat Al-Ma’un 107:4-7

Ibn Kathir reported: Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, explained the meaning of simple assistance by saying:

 هُوَ مَا يَتَعَاطَاهُ النَّاسُ بَيْنَهُمْ مِنَ الْفَأْسِ وَالْقِدْرِ وَالدَّلْوِ وَأَشْبَاهِ ذَلِكَ

They are the things people give each other, such as an axe, a pot, a bucket, and similar items.

Simple help for our neighbors is a great way to earn the pleasure of Allah, yet to withhold such easy deeds is an act of extreme miserliness and hypocrisy.

Rather, the Prophet told us that even half of a date in charity or a kind word might tip the scale in our favor on the Day of Resurrection, so we should never belittle any good deed no matter how small we might think it is.

Adi ibn Hatim reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

Protect yourself from the Hellfire even with half of a date in charity, and if he cannot find it then with a kind word.

We ask Allah to guide us and facilitate us towards such deeds that are pleasing to Him and easy for us in this world.

Success comes from Allah, and Allah knows best.
