Sectarian clashes in Pakistan between Sunni and Shiite Muslims kill 5 people

ISLAMABAD –  Police in central Pakistan say five people have been killed in sectarian clashes between Sunni and Shiite Muslims.

Police official Abdullah Khan says the clashes between members of a radical Sunni group, Ahle Sunnat Waljamaat, and minority Shiites happened Friday in the town of Bhakkar in Punjab province. The clashed followed a protest rally held by the Sunnis after one of their members was gunned down while closing his shop.

Khan says people were killed on both sides.

Pakistan has experienced worsening sectarian violence in recent years, especially attacks by radical Sunnis targeting Shiites.
