Minister: Hamas to release some collaborators

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) — The government in Gaza will release a number of convicted collaborators who have served two-thirds of their sentences, the interior minister said Thursday.

Fathi Hammad said the Hamas government took a dual approach, deterring collaboration with Israel through punishment as well as rehabilitating offenders.

At a workshop about collaboration in Gaza, Hammad said a number of informers had been arrested in the latest campaign against collaboration and that they were being questioned.

“Opinion polls conducted about previous campaigns showed that popular support for the security services’ work reached over 86 percent,” the minister said.
