IOA mobilizes forces near Aqsa mosque

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– Hundreds of Israeli occupation soldiers and policemen were deployed since the early morning hours of Saturday in the vicinity of the holy Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.

Najeh Bukairat, the head of the manuscripts and heritage in the Aqsa mosque, said that the soldiers were deployed near the Maghareba gate apparently to block entrance of worshippers to the mosque on Sunday when Israeli officials are planning to storm its plazas.

He told Quds Press that hundreds of border policemen and police forces were pouring into the vicinity of the mosque since the early morning hours, calling on Palestinians to flock to the holy site starting with dawn prayers on Sunday.

Bukairat said that Likud party leaders have vowed to storm the Aqsa mosque on Sunday to perform Talmudic rituals.

He addressed calls to Muslims worldwide, saying that the Aqsa is in real danger and the Israeli occupation authority is adamant on storming the site to build the alleged temple.

Organisations participate in Global March to Jerusalem

Press Release

British Solidarity Organisations participate in Global March to Jerusalem

London: 10th Feb 2012
A number of Islamic, Arab and British Palestinian solidarity organisations will meet this Monday 13th Feb to discuss plans for activities of the Global March to Jerusalem. The meeting is on the invitation of the Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB), the Association of Palestinian Community (APC) and the British Muslim Initiative (BMI). These organisations, alongside many other British solidarity organisations, have announced their intention for active participation in the Global March to Jerusalem by organising a large protest in front of the Israeli embassy in London and sending delegations to participate in the huge March which planned to take place in the bordering countries of Palestine, as to condemn the Judaization, apartheid and ethnic cleansing committed by Israel against Jerusalem and its people in particular and against Palestinians in the Occupied Territories in general.

Dr. Hafez Karmi, chairman of the PFB, said that this meeting is part of a bigger gathering which will include all European committees and organisations participating in the March to Jerusalem. The PFB will host the said meeting in London on the 21st Feb, where European efforts will be coordinated to ensure the participation of as many people as possible in the March and its activities whether in European capitals or through travelling to Palestine or its surrounding countries where hundreds of thousands of participants in Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt will march to the nearest point to Jerusalem.

Sarah Colborne, The Executive Director of Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) announced at the end of January that a huge March will take place in front of the Israeli embassy in London as part of the GMJ. She invited all British people to actively join the protest.

It worth to mention that The Global March to Jerusalem will take place on Friday 30th March 2012 where hundreds of committees and campaigns all over the six continents will participate in order to highlight the suffering the people of Jerusalem are going through as a result of the occupation’s Zionist and racist practices. The slogan of the March will be “Peoples of the world demand the freedom for Jerusalem… People of the world demand to end the occupation of Palestine”.

Palestinian factions warn against Likudists entry of Al-Aqsa mosque

GAZA, Feb 10 (KUNA) — Palestinian factions Friday warned thousands of the Israeli Likud party members against storming Al-Aqsa Mosque next Sunday.
Ahmad Qurei, member of PLO’s Executive Committee, said those Likuk members planned to “call for building their so-called Jewish skeleton on the remnants of this mosque.
“These repeated calls over the intention to build the so-called skeleton at the expense of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Israeli supreme court’s decision to allow Jews to pray in Al-Aqsa Mosque is paving the way to dividing Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews …,” said Qurei.
The mosque is “a private and exclusive property of Muslims,” he said.
He called on the international diplomatic Quartet, international organizations and UN agencies to confront the Israeli plans.
Qurei called on the Jerusalemites and Palestinians in territories occupied in 1948 to flock to Al-Aqsa mosque next Sunday to safeguard its sacredness.
Palestinian resistance Islamic movement, Hamas, meanwhile, also warned against the provocative move of the Likud party members.
“We warn the zionist occupation from the consequences of this visit to the Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied Al-Quds, and we consider it as a reckless move vis-a-vis the feeling of the Muslims and a challenge to feelings of Palestinians,” Hamas official Ismail Radhwan said in a statement.
The Israeli supreme court had recently allowed the Jews to enter Al-Aqsa mosque and its yards to pray in them

Seeking Home – Immigrant Stateless Women Norway

Norway immigrant Dana A. Mahmoud

Commentary by Palestinian Iraqi immigrant to Norway – Dana A. Mahmoud

My family is originally Palestinian from Haifa. My grandparents (from both sides) were born in Haifa, which is now part of Israel. In 1948, during the conflict that followed the 1947 United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 (11) ‘Future Government of Palestine’ (also called the Partition Plan for Palestine), my grandparents, on both sides, left for safety to Basra, Iraq. For 6 months they were in flight because of the violence and death that broke out in the Haifa region. Then they moved to Baghdad, Iraq.

I call myself a Palestinian Iraqi female.

I used to hold an Iraqi document that allowed me to legally live in Iraq and other countries, including the UAE – United Arab Emirates. This document was valid for me and my family until 2006. That was when the new Iraqi Government took over. It was this government that decided not to renew our document. Why?

Because our family suddenly became the wrong (Sunni Muslim) religion. As a result of this action my family and I became stateless.

Let me give you some of my history: My dad (born in Haifa) and my mother (born in Baghdad) met in Baghdad in 1977. After marrying they moved to the UAE where I, and my 3 sisters, were born. My dad was an electrical engineer who worked in the UAE Ministry of Information and Culture. My mother worked for the UAE Ministry of Health.

We had a very normal and good life until 1989 when my dad discovered that he has lung cancer. He was in and out of hospitals for treatment for almost 10 years. In 1997, my father passed away.

It was then our lives started to be really bad.

We had to move from our big house to a small house, 60km away, losing many of the privileges we had from my dad’s job. Having nothing except faith that one day I’ll achieve something, I continued to work and study toward my university degree.

It was like that. I worked as my sisters finished high school. Two of them got married, as I and the youngest stayed home continuing to work and study.

In 2006, when our documents were no longer valid, everyone in my family was suddenly not legal anymore in the UAE (or any other country for that matter).

We started to look for a legal way out.

During this time, one of my sister’s had gone to Syria after she and her husband, and his family, were forced to flee Iraq. After starting a small business between Iraq and Syria my brother-in-law was bombed on the road one day. We don’t know who did this to him. My sister was pregnant at the time, with a son, and she fled quickly alone to Cyprus applying for asylum there. Since November 2008 my sister and her son have been living in Cyprus.

In 2008, I applied for asylum, in Norway, for myself and my family. But we were refused legal permissions.

In the process I applied with the UDI – the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration. We were refused after 22 months of waiting. I appealed the decision, but it was rejected. Why?

For two reasons: Because our 1948 document of permissions from Iraq had been discontinued. Also, because we came to Norway, not from Iraq, but via the United Arab Emirates. Because of this, were not considered war victims.

Even though our family had been running from war for generations.

To find assistance, I tried to contact the Palestinian Embassy and the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm. My mother, my younger sister and I wanted to see if there was any way that we could just go back to where we had lived before. We wanted to do this before we were rejected again by the Norwegian government, but both embassies told me, “It’s not possible,” we could not return to the UAE or to Iraq legally.

The Palestine Embassy informed us that they could not help us because we were not part of a Palestinian family coming from Gaza. The Iraqi Embassy told us that no one could return back to Iraq once they had stayed over 6 months outside the country.

Even on making contact with the UNHCR – United Nations Refugee Agency to ask for help, they offered us little options, saying we should apply to live in UNHCR camps in Turkey or Syria.

Today our new appealed case is coming before the Norwegian Immigration Appeals Board. We pray every day for a resolution to this situation.

We feel we have been left with no life. We have no passports. No way of legal travel. No valid residency. No official recognition from the countries of our past. No recognition inside the country of our future – Norway where we now live.

Now our future is vague. We are adrift, in pain, with no legal place to go. We are stateless and paperless.

Dana A. Mahmoud is currently working hard to help her and her family stay and live legally in Norway.

Hunger-striking prisoner not backing down

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – Islamic Jihad prisoner Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike for 56 days, asserted Saturday that he would continue with his strike because he is defending his dignity and not fasting in vain.

In a letter from Zeiv Hospital where he is receiving treatment, Adnan said he only drinks water and that he lost 42 kilograms.

“I started my battle offering my soul to God almighty and adamant to go ahead until righteousness triumphs over falsehood. I am defending my dignity and my people’s dignity and not doing this in vain.

“The Israeli occupation has gone to extremes against our people, especially prisoners. I have been humiliated, beaten, and harassed by interrogators for no reason, and thus I swore to God I would fight the policy of administrative detention to which I and hundreds of my fellow prisoners fell prey,” Adnan wrote.

His letter, delivered by Jalal Abu Wasil, a lawyer from the Palestinian ministry of prisoners affairs who visited him in hospital, also highlighted that Adnan refused to be examined by doctors.

“Here I am in a hospital bed surrounded with prison wardens, handcuffed, and my foot tied to the bed. The only thing I can do is offer my soul to God as I believe righteousness and justice will eventually triumph over tyranny and oppression.”

“I hereby assert that I am confronting the occupiers not for my own sake as an individual, but for the sake of thousands of prisoners who are being deprived of their simplest human rights while the world and international community look on,” he wrote.

“It is time the international community and the UN support prisoners and force the State of Israel to respect international human rights and stop treating prisoners as if they were not humans.”

Israel is a Case of Political Failure, Predictable as its Tactics

Posted on July 16, 2011 by Marivel Guzman

Omar Karem

GAZA, PALESTINE- When the heat is turning on Israel ‘Events’ start to happen, that turn the attention of the world to another issue. The recent rocket attacks according to Israel to be the excuse for the last missile launching inside Gaza. Israel long history of deceptive practices to gain support for their cause is well known, black opts that show up always right on target, at the right moment, at the precise time never fail.

When Palestinians Christians started showing support for the Palestinian cause, a number of Christian Churches were targeted around the world by “Muslim Mob”, when Ortodox Jews started supporting Palestine and speaking in that regard, Synagogues around the world were targeted by “Muslim Mobs”. It is obvious for us that have been following the conflict more closely that this “attacks” are purposely done by Israel or her supporters. And off course these attacks are never are claimed by Palestinians factions or Palestinians supporters.

We know that the resistance factions inside Palestine have their own agenda and work very much on their own. The elected government of Gaza, Hamas does not control those factions. The same way that the IOF forces can not control the radical actions of the settlers that continuously harass Palestinians inside the occupied territories.

There is something well known in the world of World News, when an attack is successfully or unsuccessfully done by any Palestinian Resistance Groups inside Israel or the Palestinian Occupied Territories, there is a sort of pride of telling the world who perpetrated the attack, even if they did not achieve their goal, which ever it could have been. They feel that standing against this powerful Entity and her army is a duty because they are fighting against an entity that have stolen their land and is continuously murdering their love ones. They tell the world that they did it, that they try. There has never been an attack from the Palestinian resistance that was not been claim, except if that attack was not from one of them.

There are rumors that some of the groups working inside Gaza and West Bank are undercover Israeli agents pretending to be Palestinians and they live inside Palestine and work against Palestine, those rumors can not be confirm, but who will say “Yes I m Spy”, Israel collaborators are usually put to death, so is unlike it that we will ever know if they really exist. But we know that some groups act against Palestine long term interest, even thought they think to serve a purpose.

The resistance groups inside Palestine usually do not agree with most of the agreements signed by their respective leaders, they feel betrayed by their leaders that most of the times end up being pressure by the US or the European Union to suppress their own people. Not that they have any other choice, their hands seems to be tied up most of the time.

An ordinary Palestinian sees the conflict with their simple mind and their struggles transpire in their everyday life. The people of Gaza are being targeted by missiles, sonar bombs, an strangulating economy that is asphyxiating them, a social infrastructure destroyed, Israel drones do not distinguish between a school, a mosque or a home, their drinking water is polluted, dirty waters running in front of their houses, high incidence of radiation from Israel bombs, cancer related to radiation, psychological trauma in most of the population, high unemployment rate, youth lost to uncertain future that engage in violent acts and drugs. I mean we can go on and on and lay out all the deficiencies of their everyday life and they see it as simple as ‘End Up the Occupation’, do not sign agreements with the enemy, because in their mind Israel is the enemy, they do not understand the Game of Politics that always goes against their simple well being, their future, their bare necessities never meet, their human rights violated, how could they understand or accept that their leader is not acting in Palestinians behalf? But who in their right mind will accept to be exiled, starved, make refugee, make homeless, murdered and not complain about it? Who Would?

Israel recent attacks in Gaza seems to follow the same pattern of the 2009-2010 massacre, where more than 1500 Palestinians got killed. The attacks never really ended since Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 they only got more vicious. They have better war technology than they did in 2005, their experiments are being perfected. The damages are more lethal, and what the UN Club is doing? Nothing, absolutely nothing. What the US is doing? they are making more difficult for Palestine to survive another year, but even against all the odds, the international community of peace and social activists and Palestinians are getting ready for September, the big date for the drafted resolution to be presented In the UN, for Palestine to be finally recognized as a Free Nation.

88 Palestinian Houses to be demolished for Israeli Park

Silwan2Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem continue to face an increased threat of home-demolition and forced eviction. The neighbourhood of Silwan, located to the south of the old city of Jerusalem, and with a population of over 50,000 Palestinians, is at particular risk. The city municipality, whose unilaterally drawn borders were established by Israel in 1967 when East Jerusalem was illegally annexed, plans to demolish 88 Palestinian homes in al-Bustan area in the centre of Silwan (see map below) to make way for the development of a so-called archeological park, known as King David’s Garden. If the plan goes forward, more than 1,500 Palestinians will be left homeless and forcibly transferred.

The original plan for the demolition of al-Bustan area was drafted in 2002. Two years later, a collective demolition order was issued to the residents along with an order to confiscate their lands for the proposed park. In protest of the plans, the residents of Silwan set up a tent in the centre of the neighbourhood and organised al-Bustan committee to engage the services of lawyers to file a case against the city municipality in Israeli courts.

Recent Developments:

According to the account of Fakhri Khalil Abu Diyab, under pressure from international and local human rights organisations, the city municipality eventually contacted the al-Bustan committee and requested that they draft a master plan and apply for housing permits for the residents. The committee dismantled the tent and did what the city municipality asked of them. However, the city municipality rejected the committee’s proposed plans claiming that they contradicted the municipality’s policies and the committee’s case was taken before the Regional Planning and Zoning Committee. In February 2009, the Israeli planning authorities again refused the necessary planning permission to the Palestinian residents. Consequently, the residents erected another tent and began holding weekly protest. Since then, Israeli occupying forces have raided the tent many times and have arrested those present.

TentOn 5 February 2012, residents of Silwan were issued an additional demolition order, this time for the solidarity tent. The order stated that the tent should be removed within one day or it would be demolished within 72 hours. The residents submitted an objection before the Israeli District Court where there will be a court hearing on 13 February 2012. Fakhri and the other residents of al-Bustan area fear that the demolition of the tent is the first step in the destruction of their neighbourhood and their eviction from East Jerusalem.

Barak Approves New Construction in Gush Etzion

After months of talks with acting council head Yair Wolf, Defense Min. Barak approves new community in Gush Etzion.
Gush Etzion

Gush Etzion
Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday approved the construction of a community in Gush Etzion.

The new village will be built at Gvaot, a neighborhood of Alon Shvut in Gush Etzion. The approval comes after months of talks between Barak and Acting Chairman of the Gush Etzion Council, Yair Wolf, over providing building permits for the establishment of the village.

The talks formally ended on Thursday when Wolf, who is a candidate in the coming elections for Chairman after the previous head, Shaul Goldstein, moved to a government position, received Barak’s official approval for the construction.

Today there are approximately 60 caravans in Gvaot, which are home to several families. With the new permit, the Gush Etzion Council intends to build a proper village for the graduates of the special education school in Gush Etzion. The Council plans to build permanent structures which will include dormitories and classrooms for the students.

While Gvaot is officially defined by the State of Israel as a neighborhood of Alon Shvut, which is actually located up a winding road and several kilometers away, it in fact functions as an independent religious community which belongs to the Gush Etzion Regional Council.

“This is the most important development that occurred in Gush Etzion in recent years, and is an evidence of the irrelevance of the green line,” Wolf, who has advanced many projects in Gush Etzion, said after receiving the approval. “This is also the answer to anyone who thought about a building freeze in Gush Etzion. We’re only expanding.”
