Turkey parl. speaker rejects Israel invite

Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek
Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek has rejected an invitation by his Israeli counterpart, Reuven Rivlin, to visit Israel, Press TV reports.

Turkish news agencies reported on Tuesday that Cicek replied to Rivlin in a letter and rejected the invitation.

In the letter, Cicek said, “I don’t accept the invitation now… I am sure that you know Turkey’s expectations for the normalization of Turkey-Israel ties.”

Turkey has repeatedly declared that Israel must apologize for a deadly attack on a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla in 2010 that killed nine Turkish nationals and must pay compensation to the families of the victims before ties can be normalized.

The Israeli military attacked the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea on May 31, 2010, killing nine Turkish citizens on board the Turkish-flagged M.V. Mavi Marmara and injuring about 50 other people who were part of the team on the six-ship convoy.
