Ahmed Toubassi, a researcher at the International Solidarity Foundation for Human Rights, has said that the excavations and digging carried out by the Israeli authorities in the historic Al Qashla Muslim Cemetery (adjacent with the Grand Mosque in Jaffa) represent yet “another face” of Israeli violations of religious as well as international conventions.

In a press release issued on Monday, June 20, he regarded the Israeli actions in the cemetery and their attempt to change its features to be a “flagrant violation of the sanctity of the cemetery and the dead – and an insult to Muslims’ sensitivities.”

Toubassi stressed that what happened in the Qashla Cemetery, where graves were dug up and the remains of the dead were transferred to an unknown location, was not the first incident in which Israel has attacked Islamic sites.

The human rights activist called on the international community, its entities and organizations, to intervene and pressure the Israeli government to end its aggression and oppressive measures that has now extend to the sacred, Islamic cemeteries.
