Fox News Contributor: “We are in a Holy War” Against Muslims

Fox News contributor and Washington Times columnist Monica Crowley today said that the United States is in a “holy war” against radical Islam, including Muslim-Americans. Crowley appeared on The O’Reilly Factor, the right-wing network’s most popular program, along with Fox News’ token liberal commentator Alan Colmes, to discuss the upcoming Congressional hearings on radical Islam in America with host Bill O’Reilly. The hearings, chaired by Rep. Peter King (R-NY), are ostensibly to probe the “extent of radicalization” of Muslim-Americans. They have drawn the ire of many Muslims, liberals and progressives who decry the un-American nature of the inquisition. Many compare it to the House Un-American Activities Committee chaired by Senator Joseph McCarthy (R-Wisconsin) in the 1950s. That communist witch hunt has gone down as one of the darker chapters in our nation’s history.

Discussing whether or not Rep. King’s hearings unfairly target Muslim-Americans, Crowley opined “the reality is that we’re in a holy war” against the more radical elements among them. Her statement drew a rebuke from Colmes, who correctly pointed out that not even former President George W. Bush would go so far as to call the struggle between the United States and Islamic extremism a “holy war,” “crusade” gaffe aside.

This isn’t the first time that Crowley’s mouth has landed her in hot water. In 2008, again on the O’Reilly Factor, she attacked the Dutch city of Amsterdam as “a cesspool of corruption, crime. Everything is out of control. It’s anarchy.” Her statement, which was utter bullshit, drew a vociferous response from the Netherlands.

Crowley also deeply offended many Canadians the following year when she appeared in a segment of Fox’s late-night program Red Eye mocking Canadian troops, even as they fought bravely in America’s war in Afghanistan.
