Egyptian convoy to support Palestine leaves Tahrir

A convoy of young Egyptians departed on Saturday morning from Cairo’s Tahrir Square, heading to North Sinai in support of a third Palestinian Intifada.

Participants are expected to protest at the Rafah crossing border instead of crossing to Gaza, as Egyptian authorities prevented a number of activists from entering Sinai on Friday.

The convoy was organized by political groups, including the National Association for Change and the 6 April Youth Movement, along with various Facebook activists and independent political figures.

The march aims to send a strong message to the international community and the Arab and Islamic worlds that the Palestinian cause concerns all Arabs and Muslims, and is a major concern for the Egyptian people.

Before leaving Tahrir, the youth called out many demands, including Palestinians’ sovereignty in their own lands, guaranteeing their security, and providing clothes, food and medicine. They demanded the release of all Palestinian detainees, the permanent re-opening of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, and the reinstatement of Palestinians’ legitimate rights, which have been denied for several decades.
