The official spokesman of the Palestinian government, Youssef Al-Mahmoud, has called on the countries around the world that believe in freedom, peace and stability as well as those who do care of upholding the resolutions of international legitimacy to declare East Jerusalem the capital of the State of Palestine.

“This call came in the face of blatant ignorance of the legitimacy and international laws that has been made by the continuation of the occupation and US President Donald Trump’s decision regarding moving the US embassy to Jerusalem,” Mahmoud said in a statement Sunday.

In that context, he called for the rejection and condemnation of Tramp’s decision to transfer his country’s embassy to the occupied Jerusalem on the 70th tragic anniversary of the Nakba of the Palestinian people and the Arab nation.

US ‘promised’ not to demand concessions from Israel in return for embassy move

Indonesians come together to protest against US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

The decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was widely suspected as being Donald Trump’s attempt to gain Israeli concessions for the deal being put together by his son-in-law Jared Kushner and a number of other White House aides.

But according to Israeli news agency Arutz Sheva, the embassy move has no strings attached and President Trump will not use the controversial decision, denounced by the international community, to win any concession from Benjamin Netanyahu.

The pro-settler newspaper, quoting a senior US official, said that Trump had already promised not to force Israel to make concessions and no political “compensation” was expected for the embassy move.

Arutz Sheva affirmed that some senior Israeli officials had expected that there would be “a price” for the US to implement the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act and move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. It cited Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who earlier this month told Channel 2 that “there is no free lunch. The opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem will come at a price, and it is worth paying it.”

The Trump administration, however, does not view the embassy move as a part of a reciprocal exchange with Israel, but merely the implementation of a long-delayed US law. “As far as we’re concerned, we are not looking for something in return for moving the embassy to Jerusalem,” the official told Arutz Sheva.

The official, according to the Israeli source, is working to draw up a framework for a final status agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Early reports suggest that the Trump peace plan will ask Israel to withdraw from four Palestinian neighbourhoods in occupied East Jerusalem to make way for a Palestinian capital.

Reporting that there was “nothing concrete on the table” with regards to the final deal, the senior official said “there will be recommendations”, but the President has “vowed not to force anything on Israel”.

On 15 May 2018, we mark the great catastrophe of the Palestinian people, the 70th anniversary of the Nakba. 70 years ago, the Zionist ethnic cleansing of Palestine escalated in the immediate aftermath of the declaration of the establishment of the Israeli state. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced by Zionist forces, over 20 massacres took place, 400 Palestinian villages were erased from the map.

This year, Palestinians organized popular mass marches in Gaza to demand the right of return, from Land Day through Nakba Day. These Palestinian marches have been met with live fire by occupation forces, killing dozens of Palestinians since 30 March.

As Palestinians commemorate occupation, dispossession and forced removal for 70 uninterrupted years, this year, US President Trump is offering a great gift to the occupying regime by moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem on 14 May.

BDS Turkey stands in support of the struggle for return and liberation of the Palestinian people, in support of the Great Return March and in protest of Trump’s Jerusalem declaration. On al-Nakba Day, we urge all supporters of Palestine and Palestinians living in Turkey to join our call for boycott in Istanbul, Ankara and Adana.

Syrian Coalition Meets US Delegation to Discusses Latest Political & Humanitarian Developments

President of the Syrian Coalition Abdurrahman Mustafa met with a US delegation Monday morning and discussed with them the latest political and humanitarian developments in Syria.

The US delegation included Karen Decker, Director of the Syria Transition Assistance Response Team (START) of the US State Department and Jill Hutchings, Political Chief in the Syrian file. The meeting was also attended by members of the Coalition’s political committee Hadi Al-Bahra, Hawas Khalil, Fadi Ibrahim, and Ruba Habboush.

President Mustafa emphasized the important role of the United States in striking necessary balance with regards to the political process aimed at achieving a comprehensive political transition meeting the goals of the revolution and the aspirations of the Syrian people for a democratic political system without Bashar al-Assad and through the implementation of the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council resolution 2254.

President Mustafa urged the US to step up its efforts to reinvigorate the Geneva process as the political process enjoying international legitimacy through United Nations sponsorship. He stressed the need to deter the actions of Iran and the activities of its terrorist militias in the region.

Moreover, President Mustafa underscored the need to activate the mechanism of accountability for war crimes in Syria, especially in light of the increasing crimes of the Assad regime and its allies, most notably the mass forced displacement and bombardment using all types of internationally prohibited weapons, including chemical weapons. He called on the American side to step up support for the population who have been forcibly displaced from different areas in Syria, including most recently those who were displaced from northern rural Homs, rural Hama and eastern Ghouta near Damascus.

President Mustafa held the Assad regime and its allies fully responsible for the current situation in Syria, pointing out that the Assad regime destroyed Syria and allowed the entry of Iranian terrorist militias with the sole aim of clinging to power.

President Mustafa pointed out that Iran has further aggravated the crisis in Syria and the region as it penetrated the local communities through supporting and establishing relations with political, religious, and sectarian organizations that operate outside the framework of international legitimacy.

Zo benut je Ramadan optimaal!

Ramadan-Fasting-Wishes-Quotes-2018-480x400

[Nasaa’i]

PCHR warns of more civilian casualties as IOF escalate measures

March of Return escalating

Since yesterday evening, 13 May 2018, and until today morning, the Israeli forces have taken several escalating measures to confront the Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege, which will expectedly reach its peak today, 14 May 2018.  The demonstrations of the Return and Breaking Siege March declared by the Supreme National Authority started its activities on 30 March 2018 along the border fence with Israel.  Though the activities have been entirely peaceful activities, the Israeli forces excessively used lethal force against the civilian demonstrators.  As a result, 42 civilians were killed, including 6 children and 2 journalists; and more than 3,300 civilians, including 600 children and 80 women, were wounded with live bullets or other lethal means.

During the last hours, PCHR’s fieldworkers monitored the following:

–        Since Sunday, 13 May 2018, the border areas have witnessed further military backups accompanied with military bulldozers, tanks, heavy equipment, and water pumping vehicles.

–        At approximately 01:00 today, 14 May 2018, the Israeli forces stationed along the border fence, north and east of the Gaza Strip, moved 100-200 meters from the border fence into the eastern outskirts.  They then established a barbed wire fence around 50-70 meters away from the border fence opposite to the new demonstration yards prepared by the Supreme National Authority of the Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege.

–        In eastern Rafah city, the Israeli forces leveled the sand barriers established by the young men to protect the demonstrators from the Israeli snipers around 200 meters away from the border fence.

–        In the morning, Israeli drones dropped thousands of leaflets for the second time since yesterday. These leaflets were against the Great Return March demonstrations that will reach its peak today.

–        From 03:00 to 08:00, Israeli forces pumped wastewater through special pumps towards Palestinian lands in the vicinity of the Return encampments, which daily witness peaceful demonstrations. Moreover, Israeli drones fired firebombs at tents in the Return encampments in Khuza’ah village, east of Khan Yunis; in eastern al-Shuja’iyia neighborhood, east of Gaza City; and eastern Jabalia.

–        On his Facebook page, the spokesperson of the Israeli forces, Avijaa Adraei, published many posts threatening the peaceful demonstrators, adding that the Israeli forces are ready for many scenarios and will use force against anyone attempting to pose threat to Israel’s security.

–        Since dawn and until this moment, PCHR’s fieldworkers reported the injury of 8 Palestinian civilians, including a woman.

PCHR said it is gravely concerned over these proactive steps and threats by Israeli officials, which indicate that the Israeli forces have the intention, upon an official decision at the highest military and political echelons, to inflict more casualties among Palestinian civilians.

PCHR warned of further deterioration and called upon the international community to take immediate action in order to protect the Palestinian civilians and avoid more casualties.
