The St. John Eye Hospital has started to treat patients with glaucoma in its centres in the Gaza Strip. Glaucoma is one of the most difficult medical procedures to perform because it requires specialist skills.

The hospital’s managing group in Gaza said that it is intervening to ease the hardships placed on patients by medical remittances. It added that it also hopes to ease the burden imposed on the Palestinian Ministry of Health when it has to transfer glaucoma patients to Israel or Egypt to undergo the surgery.

A statement from the hospital pointed out that one of its most prominent surgeons, Al-Waleed Mohammed, has performed a serious operation on a patient who had tried repeatedly to travel outside the Gaza Strip for a valve implantation in his right eye, but had failed due to the siege.

Israeli Soldiers Abduct Five Palestinians Near Jerusalem

26 MAY
12:49 AM

Israeli soldiers abducted, on Thursday evening, five Palestinians from a local mosque in Hizma town, east of occupied West Bank, after surrounding the mosque and invading it.

Local sources said the soldiers surrounded the mosque, after the Palestinians held evening prayers, and stormed into it before abducting Amjad Omar Kanaan, Ghassan Omar Kanaan, Ghazi Badr Khatib, Ishaq Mohammad and Mustafa Jabr.

The invasion and abductions led to clashes between local youngster and the soldiers who’d fired many gas bombs, causing several residents to suffer the severe effects of teargas inhalation.

Although the soldiers withdrew of the town, they are still surrounding it, installed roadblocks and are preventing the Palestinians from entering or leaving it.

Ter voorbereiding op Ramadan!

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor ramadan 2017

[Ramadanbericht nr.1]

[Nasaa’i]

ICRC warns of irreversible damage to hunger strikers’ health

Irreversible damage

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Thursday called on all concerned parties and authorities to find a solution that would avoid any loss of life or irreversible damage to the Palestinian hunger strikers’ health.

“ICRC doctors have been visiting all the detainees on hunger strike and closely monitoring their situation,” Gabriel Salazar, head of ICRC’s health department in Israel and the occupied territories, said in a statement published on the committee’s website.

“Six weeks into the hunger strike, we are concerned about potentially irreversible health consequences. From a medical perspective, we are entering a critical phase,” Salazar added.

“As a neutral humanitarian institution,” the ICRC says “it neither supports nor advocates against the hunger strike. It does, however, work to ensure that the detainees’ dignity and physical integrity are respected at all times. It is in that spirit that the ICRC has increased the numbers of its staff visiting detainees on hunger strike, including doctors, and stepped up its confidential dialogue with the detaining authorities.”

The ICRC also says it “is in regular contact with the relatives of detainees on hunger strike and is a direct witness of their anxiety, which continues to mount in the absence of family visits.”

Israeli intents to force-freed Palestinian hunger strikers

Force feeding

At the behest of the Israeli government and its prison service, some hospitals started to mull over using the force-feeding method against the Palestinian hunger strikers in jails.

In a press release on Thursday, the Palestinian hunger strike media committee warned of Israeli intents to force-feed the hunger strikers, describing the step if implemented as the most serious since the prisoners started their hunger battle.

For their part, head of the Palestinian Commission for Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) warned against taking such a move, holding Israel fully responsible for any prisoner getting hurt in its jails.

The commission and the PPS also appealed to the International Health Organization and human rights groups to intervene to prevent Israel from taking such a step against the hunger strikers in its jails.

Critical health condition

Head of Detainees and Ex-detainees Committee, Issa Qarqe, revealed on Friday that the health condition of each of the striking prisoners Ahmad Saadat, Ahed Ghalameh and Mohammad al-Qiq had gravely worsened.

The three captives, who are held in Ohli Kedar Israeli jail, are vomiting blood after 40 consecutive days of hunger strike, Qaraqe said.

In a press release, Qaraqe said that the hunger strikers escalated their demands by asking Israeli authorities to recognize them as prisoners of war and to transfer them to jails located in occupied Palestinian territories.

Qaraqe’s press release was delivered while visiting two hunger striking ex-detainees: Ahmad Awad and Ali Hussein in Beit Jala hospital in Bethlehem. Both ex-prisoners served 18 years in Israeli jails and are now going on hunger strike in solidarity with the striking prisoners in Israeli jails.

W. Bank citizens assaulted, arrested in IOF dawn campaigns

WB areas

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) at dawn Friday assaulted Palestinian citizens and arrested others during campaigns in different West Bank areas.

Local sources told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that dozens of citizens, including children, suffered from inhaling tear gas inside a hospital in Qalqilya city during clashes with local young men.

They explained that the events started after Israeli soldiers raided homes and maltreated their residents near the UNRWA Hospital in the city.

They added that the soldiers intensively fired volleys of tear gas grenades in the area, which led citizens and patients inside the hospital, especially children at the pediatric unit, to suffer from the searing effects of fumes.

Three paramedics also were also exposed to tear gas as they were at the emergency section of the hospital and provided with medical assistence.

Fumes also spread to other neighborhoods far from the hospital because of the intensity of tear gas used by the soldiers during the clashes.

The clashes also expanded to the vicinity of the soccer stadium in the city, where a teenager suffered a rubber bullet injury and was rushed to Darwish Nazzal Hospital.

In Ramallah, the IOF kidnapped Sheikh Bassam Hammad from his home in Silwad town. He is a father of two prisoners and one martyr.

The IOF also raided homes and assaulted citizens at dawn in Ya’bad town, south of Jenin.

The PIC was told that dozens of Israeli troops stormed the house of Sheikh Izzuddin Amarneh, a blind Mosque imam, in Ya’bad and rounded up his 16-year-old son, Mujahed.

Sheikh Amarneh had spent more than six months in Israeli jails and the IOF kidnapped recently his elder son and his daughter from the house.

In Tulkarem, violent clashes broke out at dawn after the IOF stormed the main city and the refugee camps of Tulkarem and Nur Shams.

Local sources reported that the IOF raided homes in the camps of Tulkarem and Nur Shams and interrogated citizens

They added that Israeli troops clashed with young men in different areas of Tulkarem city and spread, in particular, in its eastern neighborhood.
