Israeli Navy detains 4 Palestinian fishermen off Gaza shores

6 fishermen arrested within 24 hours

GAZA, (PIC)– Israeli Navy Forces on Friday detained four Palestinian fishermen off the shores of Rafah City in the southern Gaza Strip and seized their two fishing boats. Local sources said that Israeli naval forces opened fire on the fishing boats before seizing them. The four fishermen who were on board were detained.  The sources identified the detained fishermen as: the two brothers Ahmed and Iyad Bardawil, and the brothers Mohamed and Bilal Muslah. Two other Palestinian fishermen were detained on Thursday while sailing within the designated 9 nautical miles fishing zone. Last week, Palestinian fishermen set sail within nine nautical miles at Gaza sea following an Israeli decision to extend the fishing zone off some parts of the Gaza Strip coast.   As part of Israel’s blockade of the coastal enclave since 2007, Palestinian fishermen have been forced to work within a limited six-nautical-mile fishing zone off Gaza coast.
