Report: Egyptian General Sisi candidate for first deputy prime minister

General Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi will keep his post as defence minister, according to reports.

Egyptian General Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, who removed Islamist president Mohammad Mursi from power following a popular uprising, has been nominated to become first deputy prime minister, Egyptian media reported on Monday.

The daily al-Masry al-Youm quoted “informed sources” as saying that Gen. Sisi will also keep his post as defence minister.

Egypt’s military-appointed leadership has been trying to install a new cabinet that would oversee the transition to parliamentary and presidential elections, according to Reuters.

Interim premier Beblawi is expected to unveil his full cabinet on Tuesday or Wednesday, Reuters reported.

His priorities include restoring security and preparing for the elections, which the interim president has said could be held by early next year.
