GAZA CITY (Ma’an) — The Gaza Strip is preparing for the visit of the Emir of Qatar, although an official date has yet to be announced, a Gaza official said.
Yousef Rizqa, political adviser to Haniyeh, told Ma’an that an official announcement about the date of the visit has not been made, although they are expecting the Qatari official soon.
Palestinian and Qatari flags have been hung along Gaza’s streets to welcome Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and his wife Sheikha Mozah.
A Gaza TV channel reported last week that Al Thani was planning to visit the coastal enclave and a Egyptian security source said Friday that the emir of Qatar would arrive in Gaza this week.
Qatar has pledged half a billion dollars in assistance to the Gaza Strip over the coming three years to rebuild infrastructure destroyed in Israeli attacks.
